Well, Motor Transport are back to work and I had this weeks issue arrive this morning - Knights of Old have their first Ivecos on order (7.5t and 18t Eurocargos). And Fowler Welch have 130, MAN TGX's on order (delivery over three years). Scania were running an advert which featured a Scania R730 operated by Grampian Continental (A14 BYM) - very smart.
Just a few bits for you to keep an eye out for over the coming months!
Nice one, cheers for that. Always nice knowing in advance what to look out for! Just a few bits for you to keep an eye out for over the coming months!
Would be nice to see Fowlers put all those TGX' on the road, would make a nice change from all their usual plain jane Volvos! (Although having said that, they have acquired a few Merc Axor units just recently)
Fowlers. By far one of the most common hauliers i see along the stretch of the A1 i observe! I really want to grab a decent shot of one of their Ambient trailers though, they keep evading me!...
Grampian Continental have a stunning fleet! That 730 was featured in commercial motor not too long ago (IIRC they have it on rental from another company but run it in their own colours) it looks amazing!
They've got a few nice DAFs on fleet too, i see one of those every now and again, always on flatbed work.

Spotted today 13.03 this afternoon on the bridge
Nice photos of the Lancaster and Sally B, any good photos today?
Did you see that machinery in the field near you, looked a bit of a beast.

Cheers. Yes i did indeed acquire a few snaps of some nice units on the road today and yes i did indeed go and have a look at that CAT Challenger drilling Oilseed Rape in the field down the road!
Was an interesting tractor that one. I know locally that Sheards and Bates' have bought new Challengers this year, and i assumed that one belonged to the latter, but it was someone elses! Didn't get a chance to find out whos though...
They only finished combining that field last night so it was a very quick turn around, not surprising considering how much of a pig this years growing season has been...
Todays snaps -
Very nice 62 reg TGX there. Was a nice surprise that as it was the trailer that caught my eye innitially!

Lovely shots of the flying fortress James My parents are part of the whole 'Keep Her Flying' brigade...my Mum has the T-Shirt... As well as other paraphernalia gorgeous plane though. Have seen her many times. And that stupid 'We'll Meet Again' song always makes me cry.
Thanks Sam I met a few of the folks who run the Sally B preservation society at the Gransden Show. Very nice bunch and they had some nice memorabilia for sale too. (Interestingly their stall was almost perpendicular to the Vulcan To The Skies stand lol!)
They played that song when Sally B did her final pass interestingly! (On the second shot i posted you can see the cosmetic smoke being released from the planes wing during its goodbye lap)
I really liked the Flying fortress, its always something at airshows when you see something that big approach so low!
Must say the Lanc got the best reaction of the day by far though. I went to the top of the airfield to watch it coming in over Sandy woods and during the display one of the old ladies in front of me broke down in tears. Really showed just how much seeing that plane means to some, very poignant.

I forgot to post - I saw the man strolling back and forth on Monday at about 17:15, I was in the SAAB and gave you a toot or two as I went underneath!
Cheers Tony, yes i saw and heard you pass by Don't know where to look at the moment. Got tidy trucks/loads to look for on the road and farming going on further up Bushmead Rd! I could do with 360 vision lol!

Where was Mr Sheen today?! Day off?... Was up at the usual spot waiting to be sighted, but to no avail!...
I did a different route today, a lap of St.Neots. I did though pull out of Monarch Road at 13.25 and I couldn't see you on top of the bridge, did you got home early or go for a wonder?Mr Sheen said:

Had a nice long session yesterday. Mornings are always a very productive time for seeing the more unusual/desirable trucks and loads!...

You wouldn't have needed any panning skills this morning, it was stationary from Blackcat to almost the Hail Weston bridge at about 07.30 today! I hate that fecking roundabout, grrr.
Been a while since i last saw a good jam from the bridge! From a truck spotting perspective, its always better when they re direct traffic from the A14 up the A1. Had a couple of very desirable and rare for this neck of the woods northern and Scottish rigs last time Heres a few snaps of the highlights from a long session last week -
Really nicely turned out R500 Topline which passed me by heading along Bushmead Rd the other day!
My mate Marks lovely R500 heading north wearing its very shiny new screen bar!
Really nicely presented Volvo FH from Simon Gibson Trans. Always a quality spot, such a tidy fleet!
Been wanting to snap one of these for a little while now. Ascroft Haulage R560 Topline in Caterpillar livery.
Beeeeaaaaassssttttt!!! Paynes immense R580, an ex Scotland based unit, making a fantastic racket as ever passing by!
Chilterns new MP4 with the road to itself. What a stunner.
One of Allelys XF105s heading past with a rare shunter train strapped to the back!

Spotted this afternoon on the bridge, good to see you James
It was a bit nippy and blumming windy today!
Any photos today?
Likewise! It was a bit nippy and blumming windy today!
Any photos today?
You can definetely feel the seasons shifting now, that wind was a bit gusty to say the least!...
Plenty of photos as always, i'll get a few up in a bit...
Particular highlights included A pair of Cadzow Heavy Haulage units (All the way down from Scotland!) including their brand new Merc Actros Megaspace Titan (Unique!!) both with Liebherr pipelaying crawler tractors on the back (Try to imagine what a crosss between a tracked tractor, a crane and a tank would like to ascertain a rough description!) a couple of P&C Hamilton rigs also from Scotland, oh and the all new Volvo FH which i was rather thrilled to see so soon!

I learnt on Sunday that David Hathaway races Ferraris. I've a picture of his support truck in the paddock - knowing you you'll already have a picture!
Unfortunately not, the name rings a bell, but i can't ever remember seeing one of his rigs... djdestiny said:
Thats a Scottish fleet i still need to spot a few units from!...

Thats the first one Ive seen in our yard, looked really nice though.
I should of got a side on shot of the graphics too but didnt get time
No problem. Some of the well established Scottish fleets have some superb liveries! I should of got a side on shot of the graphics too but didnt get time
Was lucky enough to catch a fairly new D.Steven & Son R560 Topline the other evening. Easily one of the most eyecatching of the Scots on tour! Come all the way from Wick near the very top of Scotland! -

This is the company: http://www.davidhathaway.co.uk/
Cheers for the link Quite a nicely turned out fleet! The name rings a bell, but i just can't place ever seeing one... Not recently anyway!...
Heres todays snaps as promised earlier -
Would appear Chilled/ambient specialist Reed Boardall are the latest company to jump onto the MP4 Actros bandwagon!
My mate snapped one of these tipping at the Wisbech cold store the other night so it seems likely they're replaced a chunk of their ageing Volvo fleet with these perhaps... (Fowler Welch should join in perhaps! Although it would appear they have sided with MAN, another good choice IMO, as their chose truck supplier for the forseeable future tho')
One of GCS Johnsons XF95s transporting a deceiving looking load. At first glance the tractor (Big 360+ BHP Fendt Vario) would appear easy pickings, but the equipment its attached to pumps the GVW to around 25-30 tonnes! Its got a full soil stabilising kit attached, which includes a lime application box attached to the front and a big rotovator hooked up to the rear!
See a lot of units from the Jack Richards & Son fleet pass through, always DAFs, but this Actros is a rare machine indeed as it is currently one of only 4 non DAF units on the entire fleet! (Although its up for De-com in a few months apparently...) Richards have been stoic DAF sdupporters ever since their preferred ERF ECXs went out of production and the firm went out of business a few years back and have just acquired another healthy intake of XF105.460s!
One of Mr Stobarts many fine looking Volvos,(this one is H4650, Mandy) which may not look unusual at a cursory glance, but its pulling a rather voluminous Euro spec International trailer!
Another top quality Scottish visitor! P&C Hamilton DAF XF105 that had travelled all the way from Girvan! Always a pleasure to catch this fleet out and about, always usually very nicely turned out!
This and a nice Scania topline of their that passed by headed south an hour or so later could have been tipping/loading at Pratts Bannanas in Luton.
Big boys inbound! (Got to love a serious heavy haulage convoy that has a snake of traffic behind it!)
Pair of Scottish Cadzow units (including the firms brand new Merc Actros Titan Megaspace 8x4 leading which i was rather chuffed to see!)heading on to Plant Select in St Neots to drop a pair of Liebherr pipelaying crawlers off for disposal.
Big Titan fatboy in all its glory! What a machine!
One of Leicester Heavy Haulages XF105.510s following on a little bit later with a CAT pipelayer loaded up. Leicester have a fine fleet of heavies, their brute of an MAN TGX.680 V8 is on my must see list!...
Easily the best and most surprising sighting yesterday (In more ways than one!) was this all new Volvo FH i scooped passing by headed north just before i went home!
This truck was only launched in Sweden a week or so ago so i think its fair to assume that this unit was one of the mules, or "ghost" trucks as they became known in the Lorryspotting circles, that Volvo sent over here to tune the trucks geometry in favour to UK drivers on our infamous pimpled roads which probably explains it being on a 61 plate.
I snapped an 11 reg mule in full disguise here with exactly the same kind of shoddy bulk trailer on a couple of weeks ago so now that the new FH has been officially launched i guess the people who have been running these mules have been given the OK to pull the vinyl wraps off!
It is still a challenging looking truck design wise i think, although i thought it looked better in the metal than it did in pics. Still think an MP4 Actros or even the all new MAN TGX would still be at the top of my list if i happened to need a new 44 tonner TBH!
