Anyone want an Oak Tree?

A neighbour has recently shuffled a few properties up the same lane and has an area with hundreds of naturally occurring oak trees (quercus robus). From saplings to 15+ metres.

The area is likely to be flattened, so if you'd like an oak tree give me a shout (no charge). Saplings I imagine you just need a fork (not supplied), the bigger tress perhaps some more logistical support. Few biggies (apparently moving an 18 metre tree would cost five figures), several over 2 metres, dozens over a metre and hundreds of saplings. I know nothing about trees and have spoken to the Woodland Trust, Forestry Commission, Natural England, local authority and the Tree Council to see if any support was available to move them to a neighbouring field (there isn't!) but apparently it's a good time of year to move them.

We're out between Chesham & Bovingdon, give me a shout if interested.

Would even consider someone who wants to re-sell, but then you can part with a few quid.

Tried a few nurseries due to the quantity and no one seems bothered. I don't think they sell like hotcakes.

Might have made a little progress with one of the non-profit groups, waiting to hear back. Looks like finding space on neighbouring land and then having some advice/help and possibly funding to move them is the only way to save them.

I know the Majestic guys and they've given me some pointers and contacts, although not interested themselves (even for free which probably puts it into perspective). Alas it looks like the place will get flattened (not for a while).

I had one last positive lead with a charity who do regeneration projects, their local rep even lives about 10 minutes away - but he couldn't be arsed to come and have a look. He said "if you want a field full of oak trees, scatter some acorns".

At least I tried!

Again, no affiliation, but this place was around the corner from where I used to live and seemed to sell very large mature trees, so they are at least in that market. As others have said, always a shame to see lovely old trees destroyed. May be worth a try: http://www.premiertrees.co.uk/home.asp
