Nice places to live near Hatfield
Discussion
More details needed... (by PM if you prefer). Where exactly are you going to be working/commuting to?
Are you buying or renting? What sort of property do you have in mind? Or budget.
How old? Family in tow?
What is important to you in terms of time spent commuting, schools, what you have at home etc?
Where are you coming from, what do you like about there?
What new experiences might you want?
I'm in WGC, happy to help if I can.

The good thing about Hertfordshire is that you're never too far from a leafy village. To echo the person above, there are nice parts of Hatfield (and some of the surrounding towns that might seem grotty at first glance also have nice bits).
But if you are happy to be a drive from everything then a village (pretty much any village) is a good bet.

Old Hatfield and around the Ryde worth a look, further a field try Welwyn and Welwyn Garden City, then St Albans and Harpenden.
This.. however not sure where you live now OP, however not much value over these parts... If you need to commute into London main towns mentioned are good, otherwise plenty of villages to help keep prices down..G

As per this post, old Hatfield is beautiful and the Ryde lovely too. Just outside of these areas is a little road called Bull Stag Green which is nice, mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom houses and some 3 story properties too. I lived in two different houses down there for about 15 years and really enjoyed it once I got used to the trains.
Red lion a good pub and Taste of India in Salisbury Square uses to be ace!!!
There are lots of nice places round there, Sandridge, smallford, Wheathampstead, Welwyn village, Kimpton plus bigger towns like Welwyn Garden City, St Albans, Colney heath, welham green

I lived in Bull Stag Green in the mid 90s!!! I lived in two different houses down there for about 15 years and really enjoyed it once I got used to the trains.
One of the 3 Story town houses.

My missus lived in the end one by the s bend in the 80s and early 90s and then ended back down bull stag in 99 to live with me, much further down though.
St Albans or Welwyn probably your best bet for general amenities in a "Nice" setting and access to everywhere else...
Word of warning, the traffic situation is fairly crap in South Herts these days, commuting by car can be pretty tedious even over short distances.
Are you renting or buying? Preference between town or village living?
I've lived in and around the area for going on ten years now, St Albans, Hertford, Harpenden, Colney Heath, Hatfield, London Colney, Radlett... It's a great area and I love being 20 mins from basically anything, including London.

Live in Welwyn Garden City so know the area ( and traffic free routes) fairly well.
How much house are you looking for? Prices in the Herts towns already mentioned are steep because they are nice and easy commute into London.
WGC has a pretty good town centre, pubs are no good though. Best part about the area is that you are never more than 5 minutes from the countryside or a 10 minute drive (cycle) from a nice country pub.

My parents lived in Baldock, which is not too bad and close to the A1
even better now I believe as it has a bypass
Letchworth/Hitchen are nice
Not sure if they are too far away though
All nice places. Driving from there to Hatfield at rush hour isn't much fun though. Train is best bet but only slow trains stop at Hatfield so its about 20 mins from Hitchin, 25 from Letchworth. Still quicker than rush hour driving on the A1, and the train service is much improved now - more frequent, more seats, air con, almost a pleasure. even better now I believe as it has a bypass
