I live in Batford (the cheap end) and really like it. 2 minutes walk and you're in the country. I work in Southdown which is also nice and a tad cheaper that some other parts of Harpo.
Snap Mackie! I live in Batford too - only just moved there actually. It is nicer than it's reputation suggests, and you get a lot more property for your money! If you see a dark blue MX5 driving round - wave!

Hey, I live in Batford too.... Didn't realise there were other Pistonheaders round my way!!
Ever see me in my black E46 cabby?? It's the one with drug dealer wheels!!
Can't say I have. Are you a drug dealer? Ever see me in my black E46 cabby?? It's the one with drug dealer wheels!!
Will keep my eyes peeled for noisy red thing and BMW with mental wheels....
Some decent cars in our area though - new Boxter, Octavia VRS, couple of MX5's and a Megane Renaultsport on my road.

Anyone owning up to the silver '55 Exige in Batford?
Walked past that last night (on Lower Luton Road opposite the river?) - very nuce.I'm with Plenty on this one - we should see who is up for a Harpenden hoon/meet/toot. There are so many nice motors and surely some proportion of them come on PH....
St. Albans born and bred here, Harpenden does has a certain elitist feel about the place, well in certain places around the town anyway.
I've lived on the Harpenden Rd for the first part of my life and went to Townsend and used the Girls Grammar school as my own personal swimming pool during holidays. Never once caught.
Spent a bit of time in London Colney (shudder) when i first bought a flat after moving out after the parents moved to the Oaklands area of St. A, then on to Frogmore (between St. Albans and Radlett) now in Bricket Wood and very settled.
Great for motorway links, rail, airports, food, shops, countryside, and pubs.
My sister used to be a barmaid at the Malta, kind of like Batford as i used to rag my Mk1 Escort up that old Lower Luton Rd in my youth.

Thanks to everyone for all the very useful posts, the OH really liked it, so we're moving next month and looking forward to it. It's obviously a complete co-incidence that we going to be there before Classics on the Common ...
Now for distinctly un-PH part - any recommendations on the commute into London/Canary Wharf (apart from the most sensible one, i.e. don't do it.)

For using the train, there are a couple of options.
Harpenden - West Hampstead via First Capital Connect then Jubilee Line all the way to Canary Wharf
or
Harpenden - Kings Cross via First Capital Connect then Northern Line to Bank and DLR to the Wharf
Thanks - I am thinking the first option is the slightly better one. It wasn't clear from the timetable if I could go to London bridge then jump on the Jubilee line there as another alternative.Harpenden - West Hampstead via First Capital Connect then Jubilee Line all the way to Canary Wharf

On another note, I'd be up for a Harpenden meet if one was arranged, always nice to meet new people..
i have always lived in harpenden and my partner lives in west common. Lovely area. Good thing about the village is that every where is within walking distance. Lovely countryside round about and some hidden gems not far outside the town if you know where to look.
Batford wouldn't be my first choice to live (had a brick thrown through my windscreen once when i went into a shop) there are some parts of southdown (oakley road) that are nice and reasonable and only round the corner from nomansland common (st albans, wheathampstead, hatfield all easily accesible from there)
I'm new to PH so would be interesting to see where the next events near to us are.I drive a Green Citroen (previously 2 x 205's and a whole host of other french marvells) so may see some of you around!
