See The 2011 Royal Air Tattoo For Free

Competition: We've got 5 pairs of tickets for the greatest air show on, er, earth...

PistonHeads isn't always about cars, we like bikes, trucks, boats and aircraft too. In fact, if it has an engine of any type we're probably going to like it, especially if it's a fast and loud one. With this in mind we've been on the phone to the organisers of the Royal International Air Tattoo, and they've kindly offered five pairs of tickets as a prize giveaway.

The aviation event of the year, staged in support of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, returns to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire for 2011. It promises to be the summer's biggest birthday bash (they tell us!) as they're celebrating the 40th Anniversary of world's greatest air show taking place on July 16-17.

The Royal Air Force's legendary Red Arrows head a list of spectacular aerobatic display teams. Their displays need no introduction and at this year's Air Tattoo they will be joined by hundreds more exciting and colourful aircraft including fast jets, giant transporters, classic warbirds and helicopters in a thrilling flying and static display.

The showground also features an exciting range of interactive activities suitable for all ages including the Ford Liveshow, the Top Gear Experience simulator, motorcycle stunt teams, flight simulators, freestyle mountain bike display teams, children's quad bikes and the world land speed record challenging Bloodhound SSC jet-propelled car (model!).

To win a pair of tickets, simply email competitions@pistonheads.com with 'Air Tattoo' in the subject line, including your name and mobile number as part of the email. We will pick five winners at random from our tin 'Dad's Army' hat on Thursday 2nd June, and all winners will be notified by lunchtime on that day.

If you don't win our free tickets, you can still purchase tickets for the Air Tattoo priced at £39.00 - just call the Ticketline on 0800 107 1940 or visit www.airtattoo.com. Please note that tickets must be bought in advance and adult-accompanied under 16's get in free. Parking is included, too.

I love a good airshow. Took my 3 and 6 year olds to Abingdon at the weekend - there was only 1 hawk doing a show but they just sat on the grass engrossed by it all the way though - lord knows what they'd be like seeing the Red Arrows. First time they were quiet all day.

As for the Vulcan cloud9 (was worth waiting for even though it then took me 90 mins to get out of the car park frown)

Actually this link is closer to cars then you think, as my mate Jules (yes a girl!) is the RAF Hawk display pilot for 2011 so will be there to see her. The link is that she came 2nd in that TV show whereby they were looking for women to go racing in the RX8 race series, she came 2nd or 3rd in the overall championship smile

I would love to go but dont think I should enter the comp as it wouldnt be fair if I won (unlikely). I have been to hundreds of these shows all over the world when I worked on Nimrods. Oh Happy Days!

Looks like the Vulcan isnt flying at RIAT. She's also run out of cash and needs our help: really want to see her display over Douglas Bay at the Isle of Man TT. Facebook page is Vulcan xh558 (small xh). Thanks.

Love the red arrows and everything like it. They used to fly a practice run over my house when I lived in the Isle Of Man in the 80's. I did a Stunt flying lesson for my 21st at Goodwood Aerodrome, taking control of one of the planes they used for the red bull air race. Best experience ever!

Is that current participation list expected to expand? Pretty poor if not compared to last year. Still entered!
