How nice it would be to still have Lightnings, Buccaneers, Vulcans, Concorde's screaming around...
I remember as a child three or four Lightning's or Vulcans flying regularly flying over in formation. We're even missing the Harriers
from Wittering now...

Ahhh happy days...

We always had pairs of Phantoms going over at school; quite a lot of US bases around.

Which is why events like the one at Bruntingthorpe tomorrow in my opinion are a must to go to. There you can still see running Lightnings, Bucanneers, Victor, Comet, Nimrod, etc. Ok they're not flying, apart from the Vulcan, but you don't get that many opportunities to get to see them now.

I think the late 1940s, early 50s was the most exciting time for aircraft, you still had the prop aircraft from WWll, but the jet age had just got underway. I would have loved to have been at shows then.

I have that book too! biggrin

I clearly remember asking Dad what an "atomic bomb" was, because that book informed that the Handley-Page Victor was capable of carrying one.

The way the RAF (and the Government) are nowadays is partly why I've given up on a long time dream of becoming an FJ Pilot - I used to believe it was at least possible.

Hmm non military, but we could set our watches at school when Concord flew over. Was five past 11 (or 10?) in the morning in Wokingham.

Nearly got a loan for £3K to fly on it, but was poo pooed by her indoors.

Been to Brooklands, but it's not the same!
