Me and a few mates have just completed this course. Was excellent. I was terrified before of capsizing and banging my head on the boom, Managed to avoid the boom, but went over a few times. Quite enjoyed capsizing and even managed to climb over the boat once, onto the centre board and back in again without getting wet. Sailed mainly 420's. All was going well until a free sailing period when I was crewing for a guy who really was not sure what he was doing. He did an accidental gybe and turned the boat over. The centre board fell in and it rapidly became a nightmare. I just about managed to climb on and right it, but it blew over again. This happened three times and with trying to look after the other guy I was about knackered and started to wonder it I could recover it. It had become very windy by now. The lads on the safety boat did a grand job, got us back in, towed the boat to a more sheltered spot and righted the boat after about half an hour. After quite a few successful recoveries, this has made me think a bit and I have decided to go for a Flying Fifteen. Had a go in one of the club members boats and really liked it. I know that ff's can still be capsized but I am led to believe that this is quite a rare. Really looking forward to it. Buying from a guy at the club who has struggled for regular crew. There is a really good fleet at the club and good facilities for launch and recovery. Was hoping to get the rest of the family interested so a keel boat seems the way forward. The Mrs would not see the funny side if I put them all in the water.

Do you know many 30-40 ft powerboats that can take you across the Atlantic in gale..or have the fuel range alone....obsolete....not for sometime I don't think.

I teach both power and sail so well done on level 2.
