Yes? And? It's really nothing unusual. Airports? It's not unusual to cross Heathrow, residential areas are (subject to complaints) not an issue. Have a Google for Armoury House. Chinnys go in there on to the sports pitches.
Be honest though, there is a PH tendancy to assume something's up everytime something green flies overhead....with the classic "I heard a police car go past, then an Apache flew overhead. What's going on?"laugh

You're right, I did indeed wonder if the Libyans had decided to invade via the Irish Sea and Blackpool hehe

I think you mean it's outside the realm of what you would normally consider "usual".
Based on the reply to B1G GK's original sighting, why is one then appearing in Alderley Edge "most bizarre"? Out of the ordinary perhaps, but bizarre?
I really don't get it.

Ooop here around Manchester we dont get any military sightings, even the local TA are a rarity, so to see a Chinook knocking about is a rarity in itself as before the turn of the year you could count sighting this decade on 1 hand, to see them flying over twice in 2 months could be classed as bizarre, Why have Chinnooks suddenly tuen up? Bizarre. To have 1 landing or making an assumed land on a bit of land that is a nothingness apart from grass and shubbery could again be said to be bizarre, It may be the norm down your way or in a training or low fly zone but Manchester aint either, Bizarre wink

You mean a large grass field? Where would you land a battleFIELD helicopter?

Not a Chinook but I've just seen three rather large single blade military helicopters (sorry I'm no anorak, so I don't know the name) flying in convoy heading west over Poynton probably coming from Woodford way.

I too have never seen any military aviation acitvity around this area in the 12 years I've lived here except a pair of Chinooks about 6 months ago (awesome noise!)

Regularly see pairs of Chinooks heading throught the low level zone here in Cheadle Hulme. They go over the glidepath for 23R. Very distinctive noise.

Never seen one land in a field near Alderly Edge though. Thats just weird.

Saw these 3 about 10/15 mins ago heading out from Woodford airport direction along the usual flightpath, which is directly over my house.

Really miss all the plane that used to fly into Woodford, used to have lots during the week.

Upon further research they were either Merlin HC-3's or Puma HC-1's. An impressive sight either way. smile

Wow, this is the first time on the forum...and I felt I had to add my pointless comment.

I live in London and in the last few weeks Chin's have been flying over my house at low level.

I didn't think it was bizzare but certainly unusual.

Regardless of that, you all must agree...WHAT A BL00DY FANTASTIC MACHINE!!!

The twin props sounds like thunder and my little boy screams with excitment.

One over Blackpool a day or two ago coming from the directino of Weeton Barracks.
Saw that myself. Also one coming in over the sea heading towards the airport last week.

There have been a few others over the last couple of weeks. Don't think they have been landing at the airport.
A pair went over my house ( Staining ) heading towards Weeton, then turned south

I don't find them a strange sight at all, in fact I barely bother to look up most times....

But then, I do live in Odiham

Bit of an update and maybe some info after having a Chinook land just outside Oldham.

The sightings us here ooop north have been getting are due to tests/recce of available landing sights should the poo hit the fan during the Olympics, locality to specialist hospital units should there be a disaster or acts of terrorism etc.
