Huh, 10 mins after I say there's a Lynx about but no Typhoons, sounds like one Typhoon is currently over the Dartford area, can't see a bloody thing though....

Ocean is a good name for a big ship and has a fair bit of history behind it, the new carriers though....that's a bad naming scheme, of the hundreds of awesome and historic names to choose from they name them after a pair of benefits scroungers.

Personally I would have gone for Centaur and Cerberus.

Big Liz for PM any day. With no politics to worry about, they could get on with running the country.

This is easily the most interesting bit of the whole olympics.

I wonder if this is what a coup would look like?

Interesting idea... the Captain of HMS Ocean is quite well placed to point his guns (if it has any) through the House of Commons window and say 'Hand over the woolsack' or whatever.

Battleship Potemkin etc.

I believe the guns of HMS Belfast are trained on Scratchwood services on the M1. If the Breech Blocks were to be replaced and they were to drop some 4.5" HE on Westminster Palace instead the return on investment would be off the scale...

Not really.

The piddly amount it costs to support them, is chicken feed compared to the revenue driven by tourists attracted to the Royal family and the history of this country.

Go take your hater views else where, please.

Anyone know when HMS Ocean departs?? I live right on the river at Woolwich and have missed Bulwark, Ark Royal, Illustrious and various other warships in the past.

rofl Not good with London landmarks are you? Westminster Palace is better known as the Houses of Parliment. You know the place, it's where all the scumbag politicians hang out...

as has been pointed out by at least one other person the Palace of Westminster is not a royal home, it is the 'workplace' of CMD + nick, the millipede brothers plus 600 odd other prats who think they know the answers ...

now that nice mr Fawkes had an idea with merit ...

She's back at Greenwich tonight.

and

There will be a chance to look around the Mighty O on Sunday afternoon when the Royal Navy open her up to the public.

She will be open to visitors from 10am – 3pm with boat transfers operating from Greenwich Pier. Visitors should queue up in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College where there will be a bag search point.

the primary problem that is faced for an air defence point of view is lack of airfield space close to London and Apaches and lynx operating off Ocean are a convenient way to help with that issue

while fixed wing QRA arrangements are being varied for the Olympic period , the helicopters are another part of the plan ...
They could easily base the helicopter at Stapleford Aerodrome

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=stapleford+aerodro...redfacefficial&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ei=7_f_T_71KpTB0gXT4rDCBw&ved=0CE0Q_AUoAg

It's inside the M25 and probably 5 mins flying time to the Olympic Park.

I am sure as others have said it's about HMS Ocean providing an all in one logisitics package and the statement.
