Churchill may have even popular with civilians.

But he was NOT popular with WW2 service men.

He was a bit bung Ho. Bung Ho reckless with men's lives in his decision making.

Monty was much better in that respect

Possibly his reputation from WW1, and the Gallipoli campaign, coloured their opinions? I think he was more circumspect in WW2, and was prepared to listen to his generals. He resisted pressure from Stalin for an early assault on Europe, and supposedly agonised over the D-Day landings, worried that it would be a massacre.

I've got to say that nuclear powered, catapults or whatever, the QE class carriers are (IMO of course) the coolest looking ship ever in the history of things that float.

I am getting really annoyed with the tedious knockers on the FB groups going on about "no planes" - like a bloody stuck record.

And even if the planes won't all be on for a few years they're built for more than just planes.

So what is an aircraft carrier built for if not aircraft? I think the clue to its role might be in the title of the class of ship.

No planes [hopefully so can get rid of pieces of defence budget destroying crap] and from certain forward quartering angles look truly crap!

With rumours of the carrier coming in to port during victorious festival I’m hoping to see iron maiden on the flight deck playing a set as it sails past the festival site.

Wishful thinking?
Are we able to confirm this anywhere, not the Iron Maiden bit, obviously?
More information to back up "said rumour"

I'm sure QNLZ won't want to be seen dead in the company of that rustbucket. It's that dreadful moment when your country bumpkin cousins come to visit, looking like something the cat dragged in.

I'm not sure, because it was launched on the 13th April 1937. Commissioned on the 16th December 1938, and then sunk by one torpedo on the 10th November 1941.

Looks like the Liz is fitted with a Dalek exterminator gun! Maybe that's why we are not worried about no planes.
