Some years ago, some RN ships carried BMC mini cars.
Has this tradition been continued in recent years?
It would have been mokes; the RN had a few for general dogsbodying in port visits and the carriers may have had some. I suspect the paperwork now needed for such things means it doesn't happen anymore, whereas life back then was less 'formal' and the RN was still welcome in the bits of the world either coloured red or recently departed from it.

Also when you consider Shore Establishment like Copenacre and the Dockyards, some of them quite remote, they were likely to have civilian spec wheeled vehicles for a variety of purposes too numerous t

Are you suggesting carriers migrate?
It's always nice to squeeze in a last minute holiday before starting a new job. biggrin

I do realise that

But has the idea been updated to modern conditions, I wonder?
The old carriers (CVS) used to carry a Jag XJ for the CO when they deployed and I think they replaced these with a Range Rover for the last few years they were in service. Bit of product placement I think so there won't be an NSN for one!!

I served on Ark Royal and I don't remember anything grander than a minibus or land rover. I might be wrong though.

She's currently making 26 knots while passing Portavogie in NI. (That's water skiing speed! biggrin)

Going on a recent comment about the weather, I'd agree that Thursday seems to look much more favourable for entering the narrow Portsmouth channel as some breezy weather is on its way. Tide times for Thursday show HT to be at 7:50AM and 8:26PM. (Friday 9:03AM and 9:31PM)
Portsmouth Harbour's particular geography means the high water and low water mark always differs slightly to what the rest of The Solent is doing and the entrance can have fast moving water either side of slack water.

Can't remember when they started doing this but think it was probably post Yugotours and obviously not Telic1, sure I saw one being craned off Invinc when she turned up to ruin a run ashore in Dubai (96?). Did also hear a good dit about one being pranged during roughers when something worked loose in the Hangar.

Managed to avoid CVS for my 29 years but it's a true dit...
