There's not a lot of choice if the carriers are to enter active service, there's no other means of bombing them up; doing it from barges was binned a long time ago.

DM Crombie, just up from Rosyth has also been mooted as a possible site. Seems to be deep enough.

She's currently squeezing through a small gap - backwards.

It's a bit blowy up north so the attempt at entering the basin has been called off until tomorrow.

Getting through Rhu narrows might be a tight squeeze

My first look at the marine tracking sites had her just of the IOW so I assumed the photos were older pics. I later went back to find those sites were dated 1/4/19.

So to add to my original question if she is now up in Scotland why is there no tracking info for her journey?

If she went up without using AIS do we have a similar issue to that of the Norwegian frigate Helge Ingstad which could not be identified and contacted in good time to avoid an incident?

Technology, eh? It can't be trusted.
I can't be sure (because I'm currently thousands of miles away) yet I would suggest that she isn't loitering off the Isle of Wight, but is presently kicking her heels somewhere around here:

Don’t navy ships usually not show up on AIS apps?

You see some but they often only show in port or get the wrong ship.

I doubt any navy wants joe public tracking all their ships really?

I doubt they'd ever bother but if the RN managed to get KGV through the narrows as they were 70 years ago getting the carrier through since they were widened and deepened for the Vanguard class should be entirely feasible.

But not at loads of other times and not between Portsmouth and Rosyth.
