Is it that China might win a fight if it was on their own doorstep?
China's "doorstep" now has a 4000km radius in which any carrier will be highly vulnerable.
While NATO & EU have been strategically quite insular, in the last three decades China has been building significant strategic alliances throughout Africa with its "Infrastructure for Resources" program and throughout the Pacific with its "Aid & Infrastructure for Influence" projects.
Those of us who are either from or live in the Pacific, and this includes the US, are only too well aware of the the importance of Pacific island strongholds as we're seeing a repetition of the '30's.
Too many countries are now armed to fight the last war not the next one.
Many countries really need to review their:
(1) Bio-security;
(2) Border security;
(3) Cyber security;
(4) Energy security;
(5) Food security;
(6) Water security.

Still popular, but it's no longer ten deep as she pops in and for the training voyages. Definitely worth seeing them in the flesh at least once. The harbour tours haven't re-started yet post covid19, but they can be fun way to get up close(ish) to either/both carriers.
It's always fascinating to watch them squeeze in through the harbour mouth. You can almost touch them as they pass by the Still and West.
Size comparisons to Ark Royal might have you making excuses though

Funny thing is I've never seen Ark Royal under sail from an observer point of view, so it will be difficult for me to compare. My wife has though so will definitely have the excuses ready It's always fascinating to watch them squeeze in through the harbour mouth. You can almost touch them as they pass by the Still and West.

Yes - I left it in early 2011. It was a very strange time. Due to the role I did, there wasn't much to do alongside other than Divisional Officer stuff and it turns out de-kitting an aircraft carrier is a long drawn out process. Jerry Kidd was the old man onboard and I don't know anyone who has a bad thing to say about him. Easily the best skipper I've ever had. Being 2OOD and subsequently OOD onboard was a mind-numbing chore but my oppo and I did 4 days about during leave periods - SLIB!
One of my favourite drafts if I'm perfectly honest - I'm still in now, albeit as a reservist in a niche role, and when I've been cutting around the dockyard, I've seen up close the size difference between Big Lizzie and ARKR. She's a big old unit and HUGELY impressive in the flesh.
I'm glad I'm not an OOD on the new class - going from HQ1 to HQ2 via the bridge at the rush wouldn't be my idea of fun...
