Same.

Sailors then also were not stupid enough to consider posting that st online.

Watching some of the recent TV documentaries and confirmed by shipmates still in, in a lot of ops they take your phones physically off you. WTAF?

What happened to doing the fk you are told and if told to turn it off and leave it in your locker, you do so? Is it that common that sailors these days disobey that and keep phones on when ordered not to? Youth of today? social media influence that strong people disobey orders? Lower standard of sailors?
Whenever I'm working at Faslane, you're not allowed to take your phone on the boat.

It goes in a locker somewhere, and if you get caught with one where you shouldn't, I'm told they don't take it lightly

Plenty of places I've worked or visited where phones are banned. Often, at ammunition storage facilities for example, phones go into an ammo box and are locked in. You then get a key to the box, and they keep the box in a locked cupboard or safe. To be honest, it was quite refreshing to be unable to carry a mobile phone or radio when at work in my bunkers (RF hazard to Electric Detonators and other electrically initiated specialist EOD explosive devices). All comms through land line or a pager. The peace of working a mile from the barracks out on an old airfield was a Godsend sometimes. Couldn't just go up there for a snooze though - constantly supervised by CCTV monitored at the Guardroom 24/7.

It's doubtful the original camera holder posted it online. Undoubtedly it made its way over WhatsApp until some bugger thought they could make a quick buck from the tabloids.

Are you ships company or a contractor/visitor?

I was ships company on SSBN's and SSN's (at different times obvs) and we never had to leave phones ashore or hand them in.

So somethings made them change.

Hopefully they aren't recruiting bellends with LMF, but it does sound like it.

That probably explains it then. Even if you had the same security clearance level as ships company, they still apply the "need to know" principle and others restricting access which probably where such things stemmed from.

Interestingly, HMS QNLZ is due to depart at 15:20 tomorrow (8th March). Hot on the heels of her younger sister who went off for a NATO exercise last night.

Yes, have been watching the removal of the deck blasting/coating kit which seemed to have a sense of urgency about. I’d said to friends that I suspect both would be gone within a very short time. I managed to watch POW go last night from the warmth of my bed!

So both ships at sea together? I didn’t know there were enough crew or aircraft for that.

Inflatable rubber aircraft, like the dummy tanks used before D-Day nuts

Is this a genuine query or an attempted swipe?

Now removed from the QHM listing. Cancelled or is it to keep the element of surprise for Vlad?….

You can hardy run a war if the position of all your units is on the internet, Twitter, Facebook etc. Keeping stuff secret must be incredibly difficult now that everybody has a phone and will post photos of your tank in the bushes.

30,000 people in the RN, and the ship's company (crew) is 700.

The flight add to that, but they effectively operate as a seperate entity to the ship's company.

I thought you'd got it wrong; I couldn't believe the Navy only has 30,000 people - and many of those will be shore-based. But it's true.

This article was written in 2016; guess which way the Navy has gone since then: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-uk-military-nav...
