I don't often start threads, but after watching that truly brilliant documentary (Jet! When Britain Ruled the Skies, on BBC 4); I thought I'd pose this question to the aviation aficionados here on BP&T:

If you could have a flight in any type either as PAX or pilot, which would you choose?

Because there are so many wonderful aircraft out there, I think that we can choose a Military and Commercial type, feel free to post pics as well smile

Military:

English Electric Lightning T.5 - PAX obviously, but until recently it was my nearly achievable dream. I also think that the Lightning is one of the most brutally beautiful aircraft ever built.

Commercial:

I've thought long and hard, but I think I would've liked to have had a flight in the Tupolev Tu-144, probably over Concorde, as it would've been something that not many people from the West could ever have experienced.

Over to you smile

Boeing 777-200LR

Mainly because I'm booked to fly in one in two weeks to take me home after five offshore. biggrin

But other than that, a Spitfire, Lancaster, Vulcan, Shackleton. I think that is the top part of the list.

They were all planes I was crazy about, as a young kid with a dad in the RAF.

Has to be a Spitfire - at least there are some two seaters about.

VC10.
I'd sell a body part, or a relative, to get a ride in one before they cease to be. frown

For a more relaxed POV, it would be a Boeing Clipper or possibly a Catalina on the Nile route through Africa back in the days of Empire.

Spitfire would be great but I have a quiet, and probably unreachable, ambition to fly a DC-3.

Mossie.

Loved 'em since I first saw 633 Squadron at the pictures.

I once flew from Singapore to Brize Norton in a VC10. biggrin

Unfortunately I was only 10 years old so didn't fully appreciate the moment.

XH558, Spitfire, Phantom, Harrier, SR71 Blackbird.

Reasons? None other than they are just aircraft i have always wanted to fly in.

Agree with the Space Shutle - but a decidedly dodgy proposition - and now completely impossible.

I also wonder what would've happened if the Buran programme had come to fruition.

Apart from the fact that they are impossibly beautiful, I've always wanted a flight in a VC-10.

Military? I'd love a passenger flight in a MIG-25. As a youngster, they just seemed like they designed the biggest fk-off engines they could, then fitted an airframe around them. Russky TVR-think, if you will.

On the subs bench:

Commercial: Bristol Britannia
Military: Harrier

The VC-10 flypast at RIAT this year was wonderful - the sound of 4 Conways is truly lovely.
