The article says it's from today, but isn't this old news? Also aren't these essentially modified F-5s? The claim it can also "evade radar" and is similar to an F/A-18 seems a little skeptical. Anyone know much more on them?

Why do they always seem to unveil these in what looks to be a school gymnasium?

What they don't seem to understand is that every time they threaten to get out of their box in this way, all it does is encourage the West to duff them up before they can invade Israel. If you want to build up forces and invade somebody, do it in secret!

Yup it can evade radar by staying still whilst on the ground.

The US must be kicking themselves for bothering to develop the F-18 E, when they could so easily have adapted their old F-5's and ended up with an aircraft of similar capabilities.

No, Dougal, that miniature stealth fighter mockup is very close....

Seems to have been designed for stumpy hobbits.

As bad as it is, at least for once they have tried a bit at designing something something slightly different despite the F-22/F-35 references. There's a link at the bottom of that article to Iran's "new" attack helicopter, which by the looks of it is just an old Cobra.

Supposedly they released a video of it which is actually of a remote controlled model plane.

Sounds like an RC model jet in this flying footage, backed up by what seems to a 1:1.5 mock up (as mentioned above) for the close ups!

I half expected Sacha Baron Cohen to be revealed as the test pilot.

Why do they even bother?

So am I right in thinking the best actual fighter Iran has is the F-14?

"President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad said it had "almost all the positive features" of the world's most sophisticated jets."

Apart from that fairly essential "ability to fly" feature...
