At the 2012 Farnborough Airshow to RAF Tornado GR4s carried out a mock attack on the airfield. Plenty of bangs, smoke and pyrotechnics.
I have many such demonstrations over the years - no big deal, frankly.
I was there for that and watched the action - I thought it was bloody brilliant. I have many such demonstrations over the years - no big deal, frankly.
Waddington has had role demos with pyrotechnics for years. Great fun, from the crowd line you can feel the heat on your face as the pyros fire.
Here was one in 2010, albeit a crap photo when I'd not long been back into photography.

When I got a Display Authorisation, back in the day, the seasoned Examiner took the time to relay some points of experience to me as part of his evaluation. Here was one in 2010, albeit a crap photo when I'd not long been back into photography.

The most pressing of which was "Never Trust Air Display Pyrotechnic Technicians"...on the grounds they're invariably pyromanic loons who just love blowing stuff up, and if they think X amount of explosive material is enough to do the job, then X*3 will probably do the job just a little bit better.
His personal experience in that respect was from leading a large Harvard formation at an airshow where the pyro-loons managed to blow a small shed clean over the top of the formation during a flypast.
I haven't experienced that, but I did land up after a display at a country house festival in Norfolk (known as 'Toffstock' to some) to find that the pyros organised for the following act had led a significant number of the revellers to think that Al Qaeda had staged an attack on the festivities.
No wonder the Harrier mate in the original post got a bit of a move on, having no desire to be in the vicinity when Gonzo the Pyro Muppet mashed the fire button.
