I would be surprised if he doesn’t go to prison.

If you’re going to fly at airshows please respect the rules yes and from memory this is the second time he made a mistake at an airshow(the first not ending in a crash to be fair)

I hope the families of all those killed that day will get some closure in the coming months, this is a great first step to that.

Charged with manslaughter!
Wow.

I suppose if you killed innocent bystanders whilst performing a stunt at any other kind of show or demonstration, you would have to answer for it.

I think he will go to prison.

As others linked to, out of the blue, this.

I am quite surprised, after all this time, but think it seems reasonable.

Dreadful incident, but from what I recall, it seemed unnecessarily risky and poorly executed.

"He is to face 11 counts of manslaughter by gross negligence and one of endangering an aircraft, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said."

I think justice may be being done.

Interesting development.

Yes, even stevie wonder could tell by looking at the footage that it was a simple case of too low, too slow for the manoeuvre.
However, I thought that as long as he claimed amnesia/ no recollection of the crash, they couldn't do anything?

It also begs the question of why Hunters are (correct me if I'm wrong) still subject to extra restrictions despite being exonerated?

If that was true, anyone who killed anyone would just plead amnesia...

I think you’ll find that hard video evidence trumps the “ooh I can’t remember” defence.

Sorry story on all sides.

Won’t for a second comment on the facts or the physics of the crash as well above my level of intelligence...

One thing I will add though is that my ex next door neighbor (ex phantom, Harrier etc pilot) now flying BA Dreamliners commented that this chap was the best pilot he ever had the pleasure of flying with.
There is a good graphical video in this link explaining how piss poor his flying was on that day:

Well I suppose that only proves you can be a first class professional commercial pilot and on the other hand a pilot of old jets who doesn’t adhere to the rules concerning air shows......

Perhaps he should have flown on that Saturday in the same professional fashion he did going to Malaga or wherever.......

That's pretty clear cut and absolutely damning.
Minimum auth'd height: 500'
Actual height on the day: 185'
Minimum entry speed required: 350kts
Actual speed on the day: 310kts.

Also didn't apply maximum throttle on the upward section as required.

What they havent found is why he was too low both at entry or at top of manouevre
Someone suggested earlier it may have been because the altimeter was set wrong
Has anything followed up on that

Indeed. I have heard very different opinions of the pilot to those of Grant76's ex-next door neighbour.

I'm guessing it is the pilots responsibly to ensure the instruments are reading correctly and set correctly before fight?

I imagine everything has been looked into carefully.

What gets me is he's never made a statement. Never stood up and apologised or expressed his regret. I don't recall him expressing his condolences, maybe he did. But it doesn't seem to be public record.

11 men, the majority not even watching the air show, not involved in any way, taken from their families that day. Minding their own business, going places and doing things.

I dont think guessing and imagining are going to be too useful wink

There was enough guessing at the begiing of the thread, about whether as the weather conditions changed the altimeter would be wrong and it's an easy mistake to set the wrong type of pressure and get the height wrong.

At waht point does making a mistake become culpable
Someone else said they only realised theyd got it wrong when the fields were much bigger than they should be coming out of a loop.
Would GPS be a more accurate method of height measurement?
