Looks like one of the BA A380s is on it's way back from Spain... just over Guildford now.
I know they were/are at a remote airfield in Spain, so was surprised to see 6 of them in storage at Madrid's main airport back in December.

I thought it was Boris Force 1? It even has windows! I had no idea that doubled as a tanker too

Sat here wondering what the distinctly different droning noise was going over West Somerset - AN-12 heading north. Shame it’s dark would have been good to get a look through the bins.

If it was the same thing that passed over Edi heading south it was two loud jets. They didn’t appear on ADSB so I think they might have been US. F15s maybe?

I don't think the Voyagers can refuel F15s, AFAIK they use different systems. Happy to be corrected.

Different fuelling systems I understand. I did see at least one US KC135 heading up North earlier so could have been that?

Antonov AN-12 inbound, I think, BHX.

And three KC135’s heading back too Fairford after tanking B52’s out over the Atlantic.

Definitely Fairford. Heard one land late last night. One took off about 5 minutes ago.

Yes another KC135 inbound to Fairford after a mission over Poland. Just saw it flying below the cloud base.

Edit. There’s another one out and about over Iraq and Kuwait: 57-1451 first flew 6 August 1958.

Moscow to Manchester to fly Manchester United out to Milan for a football game. Good to see the carbon being saved!

I’d imagine that’s very standard procedure. There won’t be any biz jets that could accommodate them.

There are loads of UK based planes, they are flying premier league clubs around the UK all the time. Jota aviation for example are in and out of Manchester and Liverpool every other day. The point here is, they have flown a plane from Russia to the UK (empty) to then fly to Milan, because Aeroflot are the 'official' plane sponsor of United. It's ridiculous.

While you may very well be right in that its empty, but it could be carrying a full hold of cargo and/or carrying out crew training, so maybe not as ridiculous as you think.

Could be, but I suspect that money talks here and again it's a case of some and not all need to reduce their carbon footprints. Same as when Liverpool flew to DSA for a match against Sheffield United last year, when it wouldn't take much longer to go by coach, when you consider they had to go by coach to Liverpool Airport, then the same coach drove to DSA to take them from the airport to the hotel in Sheffield.

If that's true, that is proper bonkers at every level, and defies any sort of common sense logic.....!

Quick, someone tweet Greta.
