Spotted over Telford dropping through 32,000, was at 60,000 as it crossed the coast over Liverpool.

SFS70 surveying Birmingham, picked up on my kit here on the outskirts of S-o-A

Also got a little data from Dragon86 which is super cool for an ADSB receiving geek like me.

Went straight over the Wirral not Liverpool, maybe using the Wallasey VOR?

Sorry - no offence meant - she was certainly tracking to the west of the Mersey so Wallasey would be more accurate. I followed her from just south of Iceland.

I was quite impressed that the descent was immediate and quite dramatic as she crossed the coast.

Also this is the first time I have spotted one on that route into Fairford through the telescope.

Apparently there are 3 at Fairford now in response to the situation developing in the Baltic

Lots of noise over West Somerset right now but nothing showing up on FR24. Sound like military fast jets circling around at fairly high level. Wishing I could catch a glimpse to satisfy my curiosity.

Same here in Wiltshire. Out walking the dog & five jets one after the other, separated by about a minute each flew over from north to south heading for Salisbury Plain. Nothing on ADS-B Exchange either.

A400M's just come across central Chelmsford - distinctive noise (annoyingly I couldn't see it).

This flew over after flying from Jeddah - looks like it’s heading to the States.

Might be going to Canada, as it looks like they will be ordering 6 of them according to recent reports.

Amazing how far the sound travels from these.

I heard one the other week and looked on FR24 to see what it was expecting some old Russian thing and was surprised how far away and high up this was.

As a military aircraft you’d think the baddies would hear it coming from miles away. I realise it’s not a stealth bomber but presumably you might want to deliver something a bit secretly like special forces or something. To me the C17 and Hercules seem much quieter.

During lockdown when the RAF were training in other areas of the country and using different airports, local papers and Facebook groups were full of people asking what the hell the noise was.

Certainley one of a few reasons why the RAF were keeping the C130J's on for SF use, but that's now gone by the board with the announcement of the Herc fleet going within next few years instead of 2035.

I've heard that Airbus (having never designed a mil cargo a/c before) put more emphasis on the strategic element of its role (aimed at those countries that couldn't afford C-17's) rather than its tactical role, forcing many European Airforces to keep on using the Herc as it is still a much better tactical platform than the A400M.

Given the UK pretty much invented Special Forces is even more shocking that were allowing the idiotic bean counters to give the chop to the Herc fleet.

Hey ho.............

When would anything SF require something that can't sling under a Chinook? I'd say anything that does need running to a deployment area is going to be way out of the way for SF deployment anyway, so it doesn't matter how much noise you make.
