It's a lovely thing, 1975 vintage with quite a few mods and now operated by the fabulously named Missile Defence Agency! It's here for an exercise to monitor ballistic missile launches through its various lumps and bumps. I was lucky to be at Mildenhall when went out for its 1st mission since arriving some 10 days earlier. Spey powered so lots of noise and smoke., IMG_8590 by Andrew St Edmunds, on Flickr
Awesome, thanks for the info. Wish I'd been there to see and hear it.Horsham558 said:

Thank you! That's really interesting and will be a surprise to a few used to the old designations...what freq are you listening on please?
Hi Tony. Mildenhall Tower is on 370.25 and I'm sure that they check in on 369.80 as Lakenheath Approach. I'll have another listen to the scanner tomorrow and make notes.?? ( scanner has far too many freqs saved so I'm not 100% sure yet re the approach.) Hope that helps. Two of the Cobham/Draken Falcon 20's are up. G-FRAA and G-FRAS, they'll be fast jets up there too, just with ADSB off.

Not on flight radar but spotted with my own eyes, a V22 Osprey in the vicinity of Leuchars.
As it flew over they rotated the wings/rotors to the vertical.
I'm told their ship is off Arbroath.
Might be 'our' ship as there was some footage around of a V22 landing on one of our (UK) new carriers. As it flew over they rotated the wings/rotors to the vertical.
I'm told their ship is off Arbroath.

Definitely Draken now. From the horse's mouth, "the Cobham name is no more". My B-i-L works on the contracts side with the Falcon fleet and we had a long chat t'other day as I drove him home from a stay in hospital. The Falcon fleet is in the process of being re-liveried as Draken. They've got six months to do it, and the repaint is getting done as each aircraft goes in for planned maintenance.https://www.aerosociety.com/news/flying-for-the-da...

All these yank planes over here, do we have similar with RAF over there? Doubt it, is it just sheer numbers or the yanks using us as an outpost?
The RAF is indeed in the US; I have a family friend there right now in California at El Centro. The El Centro page says:Every month, seven to 12 squadrons and up to 1,600 personnel train here. Additionally, U.S. Air Force parachutists, U.S. Navy SEAL's, Army Green Berets, and British, French, German and Italian aviators visit for various phases of their training.

Off the top of my head RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Fairford and around 10 other lesser known ones. Amusingly still called 'RAF Wherever' as I guess the land is still 'ours'.
