Cool things seen on FlightRadar
Discussion
They weren't on Flightradar, but I saw two large fixed wing military personnel/equipment carriers flying very low & slow across the Colne Valley last night - they dropped into the valley from Scammonden to head east and then pulled up and out towards Holme Moss. One was following the other and it was great to see - although very unusual. It was just before 7.00pm - any ideas on what they might have been and what they were doing (apart from flying...)?

Hi MarkJSZorro1 (ZH867) / Zorro27 (ZH889) both Lockheed C-130's were having a jolly last night - I was tracking them on a couple of sites ( ADSB Exchange , SkyScanWorld amongst others ) as they usually come by Stafford - but they turned left at Bakewell and went off around Lincolnshire.
I have a subscription to AirNav Radar Box and can get historical information by doing a google search - Hopefully you can get an approximation from the attached picture

Flighradar reckons there's an American Apache flying about over the UK at the moment, but at 400 knots I'm assuming it's actually an F-15 like the one behind it!
The USAF fighters at Lakenheath often switch around a couple of digits of the octal value of their transponder code in an attempt to disguise themselves on flight trackers. That's likely what you're seeing there - an F15 with a deliberately miscoded transponder which just happens to match the real hex code of the Apache.There was one earlier in the month : EAGLE41 with hex ACC793 which decodes to civilian reg N922WG. It was actually meant to be AE1793 which belongs to F-15E 01-2003.
ACC793 = octal 53143623
AE1793 = octal 53413623
Hope that makes sense!

An in-service RAF aircraft. The BBMF keep this one, and WG486, for pilot training,,, https://www.raf.mod.uk/aircraft/chipmunk-wg486-and...Sterillium said:
I've never looked at Flight Radar before, but I just tried to see if I could find anything out about a little yellow biplane that passes over my house regularly and saw this...
Nothing about the biplane though!

Slightly odd? Galaxy from Spangdahlem seems to have flown all the way down across Turkey and probably into Iraqi airspace, but is now heading back home, presumably without landing.
It is interesting that in this current climate of aggressive posturing we can all see large numbers of Western military aircraft on these platforms. If hostilities break out we can expect to lose a lot of this information.Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
