Would that route have been flown 'manually' as such, or is that done by co-ordinates, if so.. Why is it kind of messy, and not well shaped like you see in a stack of planes at a major airport.

Any idea what this might have been about? Low and slow in the small hours last night, woke me a couple of times.

Ah, thanks. The laps line up with RAF Benson's runway.

A friend of mine flies for RVL, & flies that one sometimes: they're hand flown, often there & back, & always when on the survey route. The big jets in holding stacks will generally be flown on the autopilot.

Just watched this take off from East Midlands:
I've never seen one in the metal before so it was interesting to me - don't know if it's a regular or occasional visitor.

We’ve had one kicking around back and forth to the Channel Islands. They’re better than Citation mustangs in a straight line at least!

This was interesting 2 Cessnas from the north of France to North of Scotland yesterday.

Didn’t manage to see where they finished up!! Any ideas or just a bit of flying?

That’s some journey for them both if so! What would the routing be? Say Inverness > Faroe Islands > Reykjavik > Greenland > Northern Canada > US?

There’s a rather dramatic programme on discovery I think called deadliest flights where they follow the guys who do these delivery flights. Once you take the bullst drama out it’s quite interesting.

This was a real life spot rather than FR, but a grey Sea King with the big radar bag slung underneath just passed very low over our house in Wiltshire.

I didn't realise any were still flying in the UK.

Ground mapping for Environment Agency / Ordnance Survey etc.

Manually flown - bit like a computer game once you're up there. Quite boring, but a good hour-building job for newbies!
