They're a fairly common sight here in Wiltshire now so I presume something has changed in recent months, quite far from home.

Quite often up and about when the C-17s are circling over Keevil or when the Apaches are out to play.

I mean relative to the C-17s, C-130s and Apaches that are pretty much ever present circling Keevil here, all of which are based locally.

Latest seems to indicate the V-22's seen are UK Aircraft for the SAS. JHC pilots are training up on them.
No, these are USAF a/c belonging to the 352nd SOG at Mildenhall.

There are some RN pilots on exchange with the USMC V-22 units in the USA though.
so this was newspaper inaccurate tripe then. Was surprised to see a couple in north london the other day as I thought only US SF used them

Yes - tripe is an accurate description, and yes correct about the SF bit, as I said, used by USAF 352nd SOG from RAF Mildenhall.

An Osprey is on static at Duxford this weekend, chatting with the fliers, they said they've enjoyed a couple of training sorties over London the last couple of days. An amazing sight for all - them.included, which had them looking out the back with their cameras

We saw Chinooks quite often, but a V22 is an amazing aircraft. So military aircraft aren't new over central London

Used to see SOG fly their previous MH-53 Pave Low's on occasion over London, but even though they were huge, they were just 'another' helo to most on the ground, the V-22 however, is a little more 'noticeable' being so unique.
