I cycled past Fairford on Saturday and saw all the spotters out, I looked right and blimey, saw a huge plane look like it was hovering towards us at a very low height!!

A quick google (I know nothing about planes) revealed it was a B52 coming in from Louisiana

Impressive site

It's actually been very busy overhead today. I've spotted 3 x B52, 2 x A400M, 1 x C-17 and the first Spitfire of the year (invasion stripes livery) doing an impromptu mini air display. thumbup

Yeah, think I saw the same one through a gap in the clouds heading NE.

Seems the 6 x BUFF's have been flying close to Russian airspace from the Arctic and Baltic down to the Med and the Black Sea. Russians have been posting video on line of their fighters intercepting B-52 'probing' missions in the past weeks.

I could have told you that but you decided to fall off your bicycle instead.

I've just realised that after 3 years of keeping PH and the Russians up-to-speed on the movements of these B52s, that I have never taken a photo of one. Well I was ready and primed with my camera this morning and sure enough two of them have already flown over. Now I only have a 55mm - 200mm zoom lens, so the aircraft don't actually look that big 100 miles or so into their flight. Anyway I did what I could and have digitally enlarged the image, so it's much grainier but, what the hell, it's a B52 after all.

Here's a shot of the third one over today.

USAF published this week this wonderful, WW2 over Germany style photo of 4 x BUFF's taken from a 5th, from the recent Fairford detachment, along with 3 x RNoAF F-16's....... smile

Presumably this video is related to the events in this post - B52 with Typhoon escort:

They must be back at Fairford. Just had one overhead.

Followed 60 seconds later by a pair of low flying Ospreys going the other direction. Just a happy coincidence though.

Just spotted him coming back home over our house, so a mission of about 6 hours or so today.

There is on B52 there currently which has been involved in exercises here and I believe the Czech Republic. There have been 3 B2's there for just over a month now which have been a huge draw.

There is also an exercise-based at Waddington currently with 9 German Eurofighters, 4 Italian Eurofighters but most interestingly 7 Israeli F15s

The B2's go home on Thursday.
The broken one at "The Hall" left today too.

The formerly broken B52 is now on the ground at Fairford, the Fairford B52 is currently in Croatia (I think) returning to Fairford tomorrow & the rumour is that both B52’s & the three B2’s will be returning to the USA on Thursday.

Possibly.
