Meanwhile, XL426 is toasty warm and dry in her new hangar, with a nice shiny new end cap on the No2 engine...

...which rather suggests that a working airport CAN be a viable home for a live Vulcan. Just not Finningley!
Saw this on the BBC website just now - 360 virutal tour of XL426

If the new hanger were a storage warehouse then in principle it would not require planning: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/commo... would it?
Yeah, it'd be fine without Planning. so long as it's no more than 200m2 floor area (14m x 14m).

Since a Vulcan is basically 30 metres long by 30 metres wingspan, all that would remain to do, then, would be to cut it into pieces small enough to fit. wink

Yes, oops, missed that restriction. Mea culpa. Sorry.

I think design, planning and build could be cut significantly to less than 12 months. With fund raising maybe not.

Oh st! Didn't see that coming.

Whatever your view on him, he orchestrated putting that plane back in the sky, and I for one will always be grateful to him for that.

Just received the VTTS email, sad to hear.

I thought he worked incredibly hard to get XH558 back into the air and will always be grateful to him for that, being able to see it grace the skies at various events were all amazing experiences.

Dr Bob was the also the chairman of the shooting club im a member of so I've known him personally for many years, I've just seen the email they sent me and I'm shocked he was always happy to chat when I saw him at the club and the airshows when I bumped into him.

I remember seeing XH558 in the far distance when I was at a race meeting at Castle Combe years and years ago and thinking that I must get a closer look. More recently I saw it many times at air shows up at down the country, thanks to Dr Pleming.

A pal posted this earlier so assume it’s today. Not a great environment for an old aircraft to stand? I’d guess she’ll soon start to look tatty & neglected if left out in the weather?
