Lots of memories of travelling to see my grandparents on the InterCity 125s. I remember them being much more spacious than the Pendolino, but then the latter have tilting to contend with. The MTU engines are a pale imitation when it comes to the 'screaming Valenta', but they are a great example of British engineering done right. (Admittedly now with a German engine)

Probably did. IIRC that Network Rail will not let it loose without it's helper...
Sensible move – Deltics not the most reliable of locomotives.
You cad! The EE Deltic - ugly beauty personified! And there is just a hint of the Lightning in there!
He's right though.
Lovely sound, went like stink, but did have a habit of destroying engines.

The Deltic was too complex for the UK railway industry at the time, as was the APT

I had the opportunity to buy a complete set of Deltic workshop manuals a few years ago, three or four big fat volumes full of beautifully drawn exploded diagrams, just like all the other workshop manuals produced in this country in the 50s and 60s. Lovely books actually. Utterly useless to me though and so let them pass.

Did some of you mention Deltic?
I filmed one at the weekend passing through my home town, D9009 Alycidon, she sounded fantastic with both engines on song!
yes I was a spotter back in my teens, these days I just film occasionally for historic purposes

Great picture.

The 800 is basically the same as the HS1 Hitachi A train, although significant internal improvements.
