If anyone considers buying a Fairey boat, buy the very best, it will certainly be the best buy in the long run.
Ohh yes, well aware that even a perfect one will require more time spend maintaining / fixing than actually out on the water using!

(I know, I've bought 3 wrecks!)
you probably shouldn't be a salesman for the product hehe
Oh good god man! You don't want to put it in the water and use it!
Just got the paint finished .... wouldnt want to get any salt water marks on it ..... will just polish it here in teh yard with a chamois ...

Best thing to do is keep it ashore, undercover and don't use it.

Its really not that expensive, wood, glue, paint, varnish really not much. Moorings away from the South Coast can be affordable.

As a DIY prospect its easy and fairly affordable.

I run mine totally DIY on £500 a month. That's just the same as 20 cigarettes and 2 pints of beer each day.

£6k a year.

We typically spend 50 nights on board each year, so £120 a night. Its cheaper than a decent hotel.

you must have known my father ... he used the same logic when running a GB42 back in the '80s !!!

Many a memory of being flung in the back of the car straight out of school for the breakneck drive down to Mercury Marina on a Friday night!

Then the inevitable arguments between my father and Bert the harbourmaster because he had parked in a wrong parking space and had a big sticker slapped across his windscreen telling him so biglaugh

A GB42 in the 80's was quite posh.

About that time there was those 2 grey aptrol type boats kept at Mercury, a training school I recall. I was terrorising the Hamble in a Mirror, then a Laser 2 back then.

Yes, well, I didn't want to use this thread to advertise.

I've bougth another boat, so the 31 has to go. But there is another very exciting project in the pipeline.

So exciting you can't find the words to tell us about it?

I'm not clear how you manage to read a thread about Fairey boats then go looking at Brooms? That's a big leap.

I could help you buy a Fairey!

Ah, well, as far as I know there's only 2 of us nutters on PH with a Fairey, that's me and V8FOU, so I think you need to get in the game, its a very select circle you know.

Resurrecting an old thread here, but another Fairey fan here.
The Huntsman 31 aft cabin pictured on page 1, Sou, was bought new in 1969 by my Uncle.
He owned Sou until 1972 when he bought Sou Too, a 1972 Fairey Swordsman instead.
