I seem to remember that there was a Maglev train linking Birmingham airport rail station to the airport terminal back in the 1970's?

Brum's magnetic train was open from 1984 to 1995.

Britain's 1960s hovertrain was 5-10 years ahead of the Germans and Japanese, but, like most everything, the country just "gave up" on it and let others take the win.
