What's crazy, the hovertrain or the campaign to save it?

I seem to remember that there was a Maglev train linking Birmingham airport rail station to the airport terminal back in the 1970's?
Brum's magnetic train was open from 1984 to 1995.Britain's 1960s hovertrain was 5-10 years ahead of the Germans and Japanese, but, like most everything, the country just "gave up" on it and let others take the win.
