Gripen priced out the more expensive Typhoon for most "low cost" bidders and the lack of an "unsupported" ground attack capability killed off the bids from most "high cost" bidders who wanted a full multi-role aircraft.
Long story short it's too expensive as a "single use" aircraft compared to an Gripen or F-16. If it had the fully integrated ground attack capability that it should have had 5+ years ago already working, then it'd be a much more interesting buy for some of the bidding nations but, yet again, development hell has has a bigger knock on effect down the line, despite it being a really well performing platform currently.

Ironic really that it was only the RAF that even wanted the AG capability, which is why the AG development got put on the back burner........and now its the reason most outside the original partner nations aren't buying it.Long story short it's too expensive as a "single use" aircraft compared to an Gripen or F-16. I also don't understand why BAe got out of its partnership with Saab, as at least they could have kept a finger in the Gripen pie........
Is the Hawk 200 line still open?
Just wondering if, once Typhoon lines ends at whatever point, that will mark the end of any full mil a/c production in the UK.

While it is "less capable" than the latest tranche Typhoon, due to less fuel, less weapons & inferior avionics suite, it's not "less capable" by much and nowhere near as much as the price difference would lead people to think, especially when the handling/performance is fairly similar. My current job role supports both Gripen and Typhoon for multiple items (helmets and various other avionics) so I get to speak to end users daily.Sadly, by the time Tranche 2 block 15 comes around, giving it a full individual ground attack capability and making it a phenomenal multi-role aircraft, one of the best in the world, it'll be too late for new bids.

After the cancellation of the BAe replica, is this the UKs last manned fighter aircraft?
Hopefully Joint Anglo french drone programmes derived from Taranis might keep the industry alive,
Replica was a technology demonstrator for low observable airframes for what was the BAe McDonald Douglas entry to what we now now as JSF / F-35 - it was never going to fly.Hopefully Joint Anglo french drone programmes derived from Taranis might keep the industry alive,
Bit like EAP was a technology demonstrator for what turned up as Typhoon. Which also showed how politics has a real influence industrial & international partnerships.
