The canal / narrowboat thread
Discussion
I notice Robbie Cumming of YouTube has been given some airtime on BBC4 which is now available on iPlayer at present.
A five part series entitled Canal Boat Diaries initially, quite entertaining though obviously rather more polished than his regular YouTube stuff, hopefully more will follow in due course...

Saw this earlier which seems reasonably fair reporting.

I did see that on his "Christmas broadcast" this morning, should be something to look forward to and meanwhile he has said he will carry on with YouTube when able.Good to see he has been able to spend a bit of the BBC earnings on improving the boat too, some (most!) of the other canal vloggers vessels seem quite luxurious in comparison...

The Narrowboat Trust's boats make an appearance in Father Brown this week. Filmed at Cropredy last July.

Don't mention the non-authentic kitchen and the 1990s camping gas stove that are in shot

So who's got a solid fuel stove ? Do you like it ? Are they messy ? Do you get p*ssed off with emptying/cleaning it out ?
Still in two minds whether to fit one or not (after I have just purchased a stove.......)
Eberspacher/Webasto would be my choice, in every respect.Still in two minds whether to fit one or not (after I have just purchased a stove.......)
We have a squirrel in our boat with three rads off it, and for a boat used for holidays it's great, simple and effective, very little to go wrong, very controllable, stops in overnight etc.
However if you lived on board and worked away from the boat during the day, I can see that having something the can fire up on a timer would be huge blessing, and a solid fuel stove might get boring day in day out.
That said, I've seen so many threads of people having an absolute mare with diesel fired central heating I would research carefully before committing!

I hired a narrowboat once which had radiator c/h - wonder how that worked? Great for drying out clothes!
Might have been off the engine - in car terms replace the radiator with ...err...radiators!Modern boats tend to have diesel fired boilers, I think they used to have gas fired but probably due to safety (diesel doesn't explode, gas can) they've changed.
