Sad that I never got to fly on one, it was 100% on my bucket list pre-Covid.

I've flown on many. They've been the facilitator to my seeing much of the World and having great experiences of both work and play when they've got me there.

But frankly, the experience of flying on a 747 from a passenger perspective isn't materially different from flying on any other long haul jet.

When and if we are all free to travel the World again - I'll be so happy about it that I won't care if it's on a 787 or an Airbus or whatever rather than a 747.

That just looks magnificent.
A magnificence that has not been surpassed.

747s are central to many of my best memories at BA. So many wonderful times, places and people.

People still produce them on flights.

I haven’t seen a BOAC one though but have seen other airlines and the old hardback BA junior jet club one a few times.
There is a not so funny (to me at the time anyway) story with the last logged flight in that book.

it was my first lads holiday to Spain, on the return flight I asked the stewardess discretely if she could get the pilot to sign my book, all my flights so far had been logged in it from the age of 3.

Anyway after take off she comes down the aisle and shouts at the top of her voice, and in front of all my mates "Who's is this Junior Jet Club Book" you can imagine the ribbing I got!

So that was the last time it came out of its envelope.

My first actual Jumbo

and the remnants of my next one! funnily enough ended up only 9 miles from where I live.

..and your third was the one that later lost all 4 engines over Indonesia.....

Wow, after all these years I never knew that, I only googled the first two.

Remember reading all about that at the time,

Any ideas on the likely timings - i’d like to be at the Kemble end to watch them land?
Have now heard a rumour that they might be departing LHR at 7am and before sunrise....
Likely to try and stop people gathering to see it happen in the current mass gathering avoidance climate.....
More than likely around 0800L and only one of them is doing a flypast.

I've heard that timing is weather dependent on the conditions at Kemble as Kemble is VFR only...?

Forgive my ignorance - 0800 landing at Kemble or leave Heathrow? Appreciate it’s not a long flight regardless

My 1st flight to India with work was on the upper deck of a BA 747 (22 years ago) and when I went to Toronto a couple of years ago I selected the DXB-LHR flight so it was on a 747.

🚨 G-CIVB TO BE PRESERVED🚨

Today we can confirm that British Airways Boeing 747 G-CIVB "Negus" will be preserved at Cotswold Airport, Kemble.

Tomorrow October 8th, 2020 she will depart London Heathrow Airport at 0815 local time and head to her new home in the Cotswolds where she will be preserved as a museum exhibit.

At the moment we don't have the full details of when she will be ready for the public to visit but today's news that she will become the first preserved Boeing 747 in the UK brightens up what has been a crap year for aviation.

The weather reports for Kemble look horrible for most of tomorrow morning, so wondering if this will get delayed to the afternoon or the following day, if its true that approach to Kemble is VFR only...?

I have no idea how many 747's I have flown on, it has to be 75+ flights, as almost every flight we took when I was young was a 747. My first flight on one was when I was a toddler, and my dad said I had a flight deck visit on a British Airways flight, Heathrow to Los Angles which was a 747-100 or -200.

I do know I have flown on 747's with British Airways (possibly every type they operated), Qantas, JAL, Cathay Pacific, Thai Airways, Singapore Airways, Ansett Australia, and a probably list of Air Pacific, Garuda, Continental, Malaysian Airlines, Air New Zealand (to Tahiti, via NZ, it could have been a DC-8 or a 747-200).

A 747-SP could be on that list, I remember them in the early 80's in Sydney, and there is a chance I flew on one to somewhere in the Pacific or LAX. There might be some old pictures, I just asked my dad to see if he took any during our travels.

My last 747 flight was on G-CIVV at the end of January 2020, it was put into storage in 23rd March, and made it's last flight on the 28th September to Spain.

Only ever flown 747 once, to and from Thailand in 1996.
I have sat on a tug whilst it pushed back an Ansett 747 though smile

I have flown on 747s from BA, Pan Am, United, Virgin, TWA and Aerolíneas Argentinas. Was once in BA club class in the dome next to Dragon Den’s Evan Davis. His routine was meal, champagne cocktail, sleeping pill, blanket over the head, wake up for breakfast. I sometimes do that too now.
