Crouch of Kibworth, Leicestershire with the recovery truck.
Their usual work can be seen on the TV series 'Trucking Hell' & I wonder if we'll see this on a future programme.
Saw them in action many times in the 80s & 90 as they are used a lot by Leicestershire Police - always good to know it was them that had been called for as they invariably turned up well overgunned for the job so you knew it would be done.
Massively impressive truck recovery business.Their usual work can be seen on the TV series 'Trucking Hell' & I wonder if we'll see this on a future programme.

mean I am sure there will be some fothering type work too. I dont know who is project managing, who is advising who, or who is stipulating what in terms of how it is carried out, but I expect if nothing else, very little is being done in haste or under the radar, given the amount of time it has been on its side gathering 'interest' from all sides!
I love work, could watch it all day....

There's no fothering; it would be obvious if there were. It may be that insurance cover for the tow to the medway or wherever it's going is void unless more conventional methods are used but it would be a lot quicker. There's nothing wrong with doing things by the book but it's not the only way and it's not fast.I love work, could watch it all day....

You do wonder why people think they can keep adding weight to the top of boats without thinking or consulting a navel architect. It looks like there is probably half a tonne of bricks in the fireplace, along with a few tonnes of steel added on top of what would have been the upper deck. Obviously she's been changed a lot since new, but it's hardly surprising she was unstable.
That is a really niche profession. Is there much call for designer belly buttons? So looks like they have done a float test if you go over to their instagram page. Surprised there's not more followers!

I can well imagine an washing machine, full of silt, is a right sod to lift and remove!
Those wooden floors are absolutely lovely!

Hello, thought we should update this thread on the current status of Llys Helig.
She’s now floating and fairly watertight, any water ingress is manageable.
Weekend of 19th - 20th September volunteers will scrape barnacles and paint the hull and superstructure white and the funnel yellow. This is partly so reference points can be applied during the tow, but also to look respectable when she gets to Chatham for the next stage of works.
The most frequently updated info is on the Llyshelig1922 Facebook page if you want to follow the story.
Tow from Burnham to Chatham is planned for last week of September or first week of October.
Thanks for all your kind comments.

Weekend of 19th - 20th September... ...paint the hull and superstructure white and the funnel yellow.
Presumably this is in effect also a holding paint, and will do an amount to reduce corrosion till she is ready for stripping back and repainting fully in a few months/years time.Weekend of 19th - 20th September... ...paint the hull and superstructure white and the funnel yellow.
Does seem a bit mad to paint her for just a few months, but I guess the cost of it is negligible, smooths over relationships with those moored near her, as well as given a canvas for the markings while under tow.

And I thank God that there are people like you around. The world would be a poorer, duller place if there weren't.
I doff my virtual cap to you and wish you all the best with the project.

Mad, in the best way possible. I only hope to be able to do something even remotely as daft in my own time.
I've shared the link to the Steam Boat Association facebook, which for my sins I currently staff, and they are all very glad to see she has a future.
