Flew into Heathrow T3 on Tuesday evening in a little A320, we parked at a gate between three A380s (all different airlines). Sometimes it's hard to appreciate the size difference but it was comical seeing the 4 lined up next to each other.

Now that one really is a Mr Bean plan. Utterly deluded and belongs in the Cheap Fireworks in Manchester thread.

Operating from Gatwick apparently. That’ll be fun being bussed to the aircraft every time given that Gatwick only has one gate capable of handling a 380 and emirates seem to have dibs on it.

I’m memory serves when I boarded one by steps in Qatar we then used the internal steps to get to the top deck but the short answer is lots.

What is their plan? All I see is a bit about London to NY and LA.

I wonder if there's a gap for ultra-luxury cabins on some routes a big old bus like the 380 would lend itself to. I think quatar kinda tried it didn't they, did it work out?

Qatar just has a decent first class. Etihad has the Residence which is and always was a bit of a gimmick. There’s definitely lots of demand for business and first class travel across the pond but it needs to be paired with a top notch product on the ground not a crap third party lounge and being bussed out to a remote gate at Gatwick.

The number of seats they’re saying there’ll be could see a similar approach to emirates with an all business and first upper deck and then economy and maybe premium on the lower. It’ll be interesting to see a cabin mock-up, they don’t have the numbers for a custom seat design so it’ll be an off the shelf product from one of the big players so I can’t see it being particulate unique.
