The Ghan: Australia's Greatest Train Journey
https://www.sbs.com.au/guide/article/2017/12/12/sl...
3 hours of no ads only the sound of the train.
I guess this will be shown somewhere over there
Will the "train people" like it or not?
Now personally I haven't watched it yet.
Supposedly there is a 17 hour version which people want to see.

I had it on the telly. It made for a pleasant sunday night, complementing reading PH and playing Words With Friends. As you'd expect, people aren't really ready for "slow TV" nor have any interest in rail so there was plenty of negative feedback on the social media. But more people must have said they liked it as it got shown again, but this time in the directors cut - all seventeen hours of it.....

I watched a few minutes of it before work, strangely addictive!

For the train fans and non train fans.
They have just show another one of these on the Indian Pacific which crosses Australia from West to East.
3 hour one on last night but there is a long version on next weekend.

I saw this being broadcast over Facebook, obviously didn't watch it all.

There's a 7 hour version on Netflix of the train from Bergen to Oslo in Norway, should you be interested. Be warned - a lot of the first hour is definitely tunnels of blackness for extended periods, but there is some otherwise stunning scenery

When i toured australia a few years ago i used the ghan for getting round.

The idea was great but after an hour of looking through the window looking at the outback with only the odd kangaroo to break things up i got very bored very quickly with nothing much on the train to entertain myself!

The Ghan was on telly just before Christmas. Didn't plan to watch it, but bottle of red to hand I watched the lot, and loved it.

I’m going on the Ghan next week so also started watching the programme and gave up fairly quickly. It was my wife that insisted that we take the train, she sold it to me on the basis of unlimited all inclusive booze which certainly beats a jetstar flight!

Quite envious of that. I thought it was like watching a piece of music, by Philip Glass or similar ambient composer.

I’ll post up some photos if I manage to get any decent ones when I get back.

The three hour programme was on BBC4 last October. I enjoyed it. The OH looked a little nonplussed! I could lose a lot of my life to watching programmes like this from various places around the world, if someone were to make them.

Yes I saw it too, in chunks thanks to Sky box. Quite interesting with the occasional information captions. Two million concrete sleepers!
Not sure I would want to be a driver though, bit mind numbing for me.

Last night was a cruise from Broome to Darwin. Next week a canal boat on the Kennet and Avon. The Norwegian Telemark canal has been playing on some afternoons to.

I didn’t get many photos but did really enjoy the trip. Being 32 I must have been the second youngest person on the whole train (there was one kid). I managed to get a pretty decent sleep surprisingly and sunrise at Marla was cool. I would definitely recommend the Ghan to anyone thinking about it.

What is The Ghan when it's not a train journey?
