Had a stroll around at Excel today and had a really nice time playing what boat do I want.

It was the first day of the show and all sales people were enthusiastic so we had a good nose around all sorts. Feels like a long way up on the top of the big ones!

Accepting this would be a bit of a Marmite choice I decided that what I would like alongside the villa in Antibes would be this.

When I win the lottery I will want a boat to take people on for the day and it just felt like the right sort of thing. It's amazing how discriminating one can be when spending pretend money. The one at the show was £750k. They hope to sell 3 or 4 at the show.

And I'm speaking as someone whose current boat is a 2.52m long Pyrannah Burn III kayak.

One the other hand, one could buy this, have a similar amount of fun and keep £600k to charter a whopper on special occasions.

Its a great game.

I believe Riva has a stand, which we missed for some reason. I'd like to know what one I would want in my fantasy marina.

Ill buy a euro ticket for tonight and who knows.......I might be there tomorrow as well!

We went on Wednesday too.

I've got to be honest, it was more than a bit rubbish.

I predict this might be the last year of the show unfortunately, which is a huge shame as I have always loved going along, but it has been slowly dying since the move from Earls Court (and before then really) and it's now shrunk to almost an irrelevance.

I've always avoided going because its in a rubbish location for me to get to, and I'm poor, mostly because I'm poor.

If I won an absolute ton of money I'd want a Wally big enough to need a crew: https://www.wally.com/wally-sail/betterplace.html

If it was a bit more of a normal amount of money I'd want something I can short hand but still big enough for the kids and a partner each, and can do the run to/from the Med to the Caribbean every year. Really like the Discovery Yachts for this: https://www.discoveryyachts.com/our-yachts/discove...

I guess it depends if one is looking to buy a boat or look at shiny things.

I can appreciate it's limitations but I suspect if you are a serious buyer then it provides an opportunity to meet and discuss things.

It's a different day out, or at least that's how I look at it.

I'd feel I'd be wasting the time of the people there as I can't afford what I want to buy, a bit like me going to a Ferrari dealership and sitting in the cars! I realise that is a personal hang up rather than a problem for everybody.

I really don't like the location either. If I ever get lucky I'd go to the one in Monaco, as you canget a test sail on the boat if you are serious enough: http://www.monacoyachtshow.com/en/ Granted it is a lot more expensive to go to.

It would do if there were any companies you wanted to talk to there...

Used to go to the London boat show, but as others have posted it is not the best location, and parking at EXCell costs an arm and a leg as does food and drink. There are some show deals to be had on equipment such as rope and fenders, and even electronic gear, but I much prefer the Southampton Boat show, where quite a few of the boats being displayed are on the water.
Spent a pleasant half hour talking to the sales staff in a big and beautiful Nordhavn, with the wind whistling by outside, but all was nice and warm in the wheel house. The guys we talked to had brought it over from Canada, a few days before, and sitting there chatting to them with a cup of coffee gave a fleeting feeling of what it might be like to actually own / sail on one.

I just went to the Dusseldorf show for the first time and honestly with it being so accessible from the airport / town and not stupid money when you're out there, it has to be the show for someone serious about looking at a boat. Huge range, well laid out and a pleasure to attend. For people who live within an hour or two of an airport I would opt for that over London.

I went to the London show and enjoyed it.

Have been to Dusseldorf in the past and I agree, it's an eye opener! Absolutely massive!

I don't think it's quite the same as it's a show at the end of the day - people expect 90% of those visiting not to be buyers and are happy for them to look around.

To use your Ferrari analogy, it'd be a bit like going to a motor show and sitting in a BMW you can't afford, no one minds (provided you're not one of the wrs who pretends to be a real buyer just for the attention and wastes people's time on quotes and whatnot).
