2018 will be the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force and The Royal International Air Tattoo will be celebrating with 3 full days of flying. For the first time Friday will be a full show day with over 7 hours of flying, including a special flypast to mark the centenary.
Confirmed aircraft so far are,
Swiss Air Force F/A-18C Hornet
Swiss Air Force PC-7 Team
Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornet
Should be another good show.

Can’t wait.
Being paid to watch aircraft fly, whilst airside with no fences & no ladder morons.
Perfect.
Been going for 25 years or so, Boscombe and Fairford, never seen a ladder or a fence (and very few morons). Just a rope between me and the runway.Being paid to watch aircraft fly, whilst airside with no fences & no ladder morons.
Perfect.
Worth noting this falls on the same weekend as the Goodwood FoS this year.

Do you really despise the audience who come to watch the show?Being paid to watch aircraft fly, whilst airside with no fences & no ladder morons.
Perfect.
Do they give a toss about the people behind?
No.
So I hate the ladder syndrome.
Best please for them is to shove them in their own enclosure & then let the willy waving (my ladder is bigger than yours) begin.
They should be banned.
RIAT are saying no step ladders at the crowdline. Is this a new thing this year?
"Can I bring a tent/gazebo/windbreak/ladder onto the showground?
Shelters are allowed up to 1.5 metres in height as are step ladders however they are not allowed within 10m of the crowdline so that they do not obstruct to the view of others. Full height gazebos/tents are not allowed. This will be policed and should the problem persist then you will be asked to leave the event, as stated on our T&Cs."

I once brought a small folding set of small kitchen steps to an airshow (about 25 years ago) as I wanted to video the air display and I'm not very tall. However, I set the ladder up about 100 yards back from the crowd line in what was almost an open field. It worked great and nobody hit me.
Its been this way for the last few years,
There is a line as said about 10m from the crowd line. In front of the line you are not allowed tents or ladders. I have seen the odd small shelter though.
I do wish people whom turn up early would be respectful of others arriving after, Space in the 10m zone is not really enough and the early arrivals always seem to take up way more room then needed.
Last year was the first year with Saturday and Sunday Tickets, this year I am arriving on Wednesday and going to all three days.

Certainly no ladders or tents etc in the 10m zone for the past 5 years or so I've been in the green zone. I don't recall seeing any ladders full stop on a Sunday which is my usual day.
It's a hell of a lot more comfortable at the front of the crowdline than Goodwood FoS, although both events are doing their best to reduce the general public viewing areas year on year.

I think the last Air Tattoo where I sat on the crowdline all day was 1976. We were a lot closer to the runway then. It was great.
Because of the way the land lies at Fairford you can get a good view of the runway from quite a distance back.

Been going to Fairford since the mid 90’s. Over the years the crowd line has shrunk to accommodate more and more hospitality units which are situated right on the line. We used to be able to wander in at whatever time we liked and find a spot right at the front.
Now it seems to be occupied by the keen photographers, often equipped with steps. Of course they are also generally on their feet the whole time which means that everyone behind also has to stand if the want a view of the runway.
The crowd has been squashed into smaller areas with less room to spread out. It’s a shame really.

That's OK. I was hoping that you weren't standing the other side of the barriers sneering at the paying public.
Maybe the airshow organisers should just not allow the use of ladders or any other "height elevating" boxes.

Apparently the Friday RAF Flypast is going to be immense!
BMMF are including Lanc, s Hurricanes, 4 Spits (I think) and the Dak.
Cannot wait. With announcements being made on days other than the traditional Tuesday, I think that this is a RIAT that people will be talking about for years to come.
