Saw four aircraft in a V formation flying high over West Somerset in a N/NE direction this afternoon. Too high (specs with con trails) and too distant to see what they were. Anyone else see them or able to identify them?

Definitely a formation or just 4 aircraft heading north on the same airway at different (but high) levels appearing to be in formation?

I would be very surprised if they weren't together in formation. All looked same size, same height, same speed and on exactly the same course. Happy to be proved wrong, but would be an amazing coincidence for them all to align in the way they appeared. Passed over Minehead around 15:00.

Minehead to Brecon is the route of airway UN864 so it would not be unusual for them all to be following the same track. The skies are busy nowadays, it’s not unusual to have a few on top of each other on the same airway. For them to appear in formation is cool but may just be a nice coincidence.

Understood. Just seemed TOO perfect. Wish I'd managed a photo to try to zoom in.

Is is possible to get a snapshot from Planefinder (or similar) from that time?

Maybe you got lucky, maybe it was a mil formation.

I don’t know, I do it for a living so I’m not too au fait with the spotter apps, it’d be like taking my work home with me!

Just had a look at Flightradar 24 between 1430 and 1530 and nothing shows up.

Ads-b exchange is the one people on here use to spot mil stuff, might show up on there?

There was similar over B62 postcode 3 weeks ago at 0845am. Was dropping my lad off at school and spotted them overhead, took an iphone photo, flightradar was clear. Definitely military on that occasion.

Flightradar24 filters out the vast majority of military stuff. ADSBExchange is the place to look for unfiltered stuff. Or get a cheap tuner stick on a laptop.
