Britain's "most hit" bridge continues it's run of strong form this morning. Usual resultant traffic carnage.

'five railway bridge crashes per day nationally, with repairs costing an average of £13,000 per strike.'
£65,000 per day £24m per year
What could you do with £24m?
Multiple of millions especially if a railway bridge, as you have to keep the railway in use during the replacement job or road sinking, which effectively means underpinning the existing bridge as part of the job, and would mean long road closures during the project.

£24m might get you one bridge done from that list (but the cost doesn't include the hidden costs of disruption etc)

Vehicles in general have become far too big for the still largely Victorian and Edwardian infrastructure we have around a lot of the UK, but we have never tried to stop that, as its all been about money or safety.

A great job done by the team from AMCO at Blackbridge. Innovative solution that provides relief from flooding on that stretch. We were suffering the same flooding issues at Caersws when the blockade started and the AMCO team lost the acquadam. We were only replacing piles/ splicing new timbers into the rotten timber so much simpler scheme.
We do some innovative work in Wales to structures…

Hence why I posted in the "raise a railway" thread not extend a railway...

Was that cost just for raising the bridge, or did it include raising the track bed either side too?

I'm assuming it includes that, otherwise it would somewhat pointless exercise...

It was the all in cost for raising the bridge and building up the track bed either side to a compliant ramp but probably excluding the pway install and tamp which may have been done by works delivery unit. I’d ask if it mattered.

Regarding a direct bridge replacement and pway install, using the existing abutments but stabilising them, circa £2m for. Twin track bridge..I can’t give exact figures as it would not be prudent to share in a competitive environment, however I’m replacing a bridge at Christmas near Shrewsbury over 4 days therefore can speak with relevant experience

It appears taking the top off a double decker bus is just a bit careless.

5 points and an £80 fine.
