It appears taking the top off a double decker bus is just a bit careless.

5 points and an £80 fine.

That's incredibly lenient. Whilst no one was injured, there's plenty of cases where the same mistake has led to injuries and death. And drivers have been sent to prison.

Quite mad really, on a par with a moderate speeding offence.

Of obviously along with the lottery of potentially much more.

It has been done but this was a road over rail bridge.

What a remarkably negative article. 'Find something from 40 years ago nobody remembers, find as much wrong with it as you can, and cast doubt on anything you can't'...

Well that's a road over rail bridge so quite different to what's being discussed and also reasonably easier to raise compared to a rail over road.

Was a nice one at Holbeck on Thu. Another idiot took the roof off a bus. Thankfully no injuries.

This bridge over Victoria Rd. Widnes, is known as Stobart Bridge.

Gets hit religiously.

Our local bridge is number one!
I suspect the main reason it has risen to the top is that they've added protective measures (big steel girders) that actually lowered the clearance and led to a lot more strikes from vehicles that would previously go under the bridge.

They could have added the clearance height and the height restriction in the table

Hardly surprising if it only has 7'6" clearance. Plenty of white vans taller than that whose drivers won't ever have worried about getting under a bridge.

My local one is No.6

It isn't so much the strikes, it's the drivers who notice just in time to avoid belting the bridge. Then spend 25 minutes trying to turn round or reverse incompetently down the A5.

And they keep saying that Bromford Road is in Dudley when it's at the border of Oldbury and West Bromwich.
Even the local papers get it wrong.

I'd say it's a salvage transporter looking at that pic so as bad as it is, it's probably not the end of the world as most likely the cars were write offs anyway.

It is nowsmile the damage looks to be from the bridge and the cars being dragged off.

The event may have been real but the photo looks 'enhanced' to say the least.

That photo has been around a very long time.
