Gutted.

She was a well known & much loved part of Gloucester docks.

I wonder what went wrong?

Presumably she was insured so the insurance company will want to know what went wrong. Will the towing compnay also be wanting to know what went wrong. Could they be on the hook?

'The Oliver Cromwell was first built as a Dutch barge in 1922 and was converted to a riverboat hotel in 1993.'

So basically a shed, no great loss.

Surely a stern wheeler is a type of paddle steamer? (as opposed to, for example a side wheeler?)

It looks pretty much like a mock-up stern wheel. It looks like an actual propshaft under the stern.

Boat and tug had to be assisted out of Sharpness by the local lifeboat too. Doesn't seem a great start.

I don't know any more than that, but as an outside observer, the involvement of the lifeboat as opposed to another commercial vessel suggests that it was somewhat unplanned.

SARA is a volunteer/commercial organisation so may have been 'commissioned' to provide assistance.
