Wasn't sure if it was too small to be a Lancaster. I have very sparse knowledge of planes really. Sounded amazing though.

Any ideas where she was going? It was pretty amazing seeing it appear in the distance above the Emley Moor transmitter.

It's the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Avro Lancaster.

By modern standards, a Lancaster is not that big. It's only about 70 feet long with a wing span of 102 feet. As a comparison, an Airbus A320 is 103 feet long with a wing span of over 120 feet and is a lot bulkier and heavier.

Ah OK cheers. I thought it would be a bit bigger! An awesome sight though. I wonder if it was the same one that flew over York a few years back when the Tour De France went through? That was the day my mum died in one of the hospices so I'll always remember it flying over...

If your mum died in 2014 it could have been the Canadian one, otherwise it was the same aircraft.

There are only two airworthy Lancasters in the world. Most of the time, in the UK, it will be the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight example. As has been said, the other Lanc, which is based in Canada, visited the UK in 2014 so for that year only if you saw a Lanc there was a chance it might have been the Canadian example.
