I'll come volunteer for you... The week of 17 April would be ideal.

Cheers, I doubt that me finding another hobby would go down well, especially since we only get over for a week at a time! That and there's a heritage line runs through our village.

I wish they’d chosen the less-ugly P2 front-end treatment, althought I guess this one is better for lifting smoke etc up out of the way.

I assume the streamlined front end would have required a lot more panel beating and expense?

I think that the choice is more to do with not wanting to look like an A4?

I had a chat with the guys building her and if I remember correctly they will receive the new boiler this year and it is interchangeable with the one on Tornado. Which I guess might not be the case if it had to fit in with the streamlined casing?

Good point about the A4.

I think it would only be the smokebox needing to be different to get an A4 style front end on the P2. There has been/is? another "New Build" P2 project, at Doncaster I think, which was to have the A4 front.
I also prefer the look of the A4 front, but the existing design is obviously unique and was designed with smoke lifting deflection/ducting in a wind tunnel.
Perhaps the builders may have an alternative front end much later? But they will still have the poppet valves.

That looks bloody fantastic though doesn't it? What a machine. furious Edward Thompson curse

Reading around I think it is to do with fluid modelling/getting the exhaust up and away.

Had an Easter visit to the Tanfield Railway and went for an "arty" B&W shot of the driver and fireman watering and coaling "Sir Cecil A Cochrane"

Looks like a French railways Class 141 2-8-2 loco. In which case you could get a Gauge 1 live steam model of it which, at 1:32, would be perfect to run with your Scalextric layout in the garden. Build your own model Monaco! biglaugh

Glad you enjoyed it.

While you were on the train me and my lot were filming it with six cameras!
