Hi mcdjl
There are two wagon groups on the GCR. We (Windcutter group) have the 30 16T mineral wagons which are nearly all painted grey (They are owned by the DCRT, David Clarke Railway Trust). The Quorn Wagon and Wagon group maintain the other 100 wagons (these are privately owned by Mr N Tinsley I believe). Most of these are bauxite colour as they are vacuum braked. So there are five different freight rakes - Windcutters, Mixed Goods, Tanks, Vans and Ballast/PW vehicles. There are a few other wagons owned privately, my 20 ton BR brakevan is one.

Ta, how much do GCr charge to store a wagon? There's a few for sale across the gap that I can't justify but I'm curious...

Hi mcdjl
I think you would need to speak to the GCR as I think it will vary. We/I do not pay any line fees as the Railway has free use of the wagons and brakevan. We/I pay for most of the maintenance/overhaul costs. If the railway gets no benefit then I would expect a site rental fee of some sort...But the line is actually short of working siding space and so I do not expect they are looking for any more stock...
Anyway back to a train picture!

Ah yes. Didn’t he have a strip and get bricked up in a tunnel to “earn” that? And was then painted blue for a period? Or am I getting my tracks crossed?

He refused to come out of the tunnel because he was vain about his green paint. When he was released he needed a new coat of paint and asked to be painted blue like the other engines. After being confused with Gordon too many times (to the chagrin of both) he was repainted green.

I can't remember what (if anything) prompted it, but the supply of special Welsh coal for Henry happened after the tunnel affair. Then when he crashed while hauling the Flying Kipper he was rebuilt with a new shape, becoming a Black Five with a Belpaire firebox and a taper boiler.

All this was actually just a way for Awdry and his new illustrator to get Henry drawn realistically after the original illustrator drew generic/unrealistic engines.

Now that’s an interesting insight! Love it! hehe

It’s nearing 23:00, but you’ve provided my “learning something new for the day”. Thanks!
