RE: HMS Prince of Wales: PH Meets

Cold, thanks very much. You're a gent. I'll make my way to Crosby with the Lieutenant Commander RN !
Harry, I don't think ships are too reliant on the tide in The Mersey.
When the (big) Cunard ships left in 2015 (Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2) it was almost low tide with plenty of people on the beaches.
Thank you very much for your endeavours and guesstimations nevertheless.
ETA - Local press now saying arrival at the mouth of the river 12.30.
Berthing at The Pier Head (city centre) 14.00 - weather permitting.

Good to see you have a better time table work with, not a million miles out.
it’s not just the height of the tide but the slack water around it, so +/- 30 mins from high is ideal with no great inrush or outflow of water to deal with. I’d still be wary of the wind strength putting a spanner in the works though.

I see. Thanks for the info. I'm not of a nautical persuasion but I understand what you're saying (I think).it’s not just the height of the tide but the slack water around it, so +/- 30 mins from high is ideal with no great inrush or outflow of water to deal with. Yep - a very good educated guess from you there ! Thanks again.
I'll double check timings in the morning.

Well ... She was on time.
She is big and grey.
A Merlin on deck and another flying overhead.
Oh, and it is wet. Very wet. Thanks to Cold and Harry who assisted with the timetable.
There were a couple of Wildcats knocking about apparently, assume they were/are involved in the proceedings? She is big and grey.

From where I was it was quite a way in front of the ship so I didn't get a good look at it.
PoW does carry Wildcats, I believe.

Did you neighbour enjoy it then? A bit bigger than any carrier he would have served on, I bet 🤪She is big and grey.

He was on Albion, Victorious and Illustrious - so yes the PoW is quite a bit bigger.
He's not fussed on the two towers on PoW (he said it's just more for an aircraft to hit )the lack of steam catapults or the aircraft (or lack of them) - specifically the F-35B.
I think the rain made him grumpy.

It was probably a Wildcat rather than a Merlin.

According to a local FB group 2 Merlins and a Chinook joined her before she came in. The Wildcats came in this morning. From where I was it was quite a way in front of the ship so I didn't get a good look at it.

1 Merlin was shadowing her as she came into dock.

Some crappy phone pics from yesterday. Weather wasn't so bad going out from Wallasey but getting the ferry back the weather didn't half come in. Was only over for a couple of hours but enjoyed it.
Were on one of the tours tedmus? If so, waht did you think and what areas of the ship were on the tour?- Snipped pics*
