Returning home ahead of the lumpy weather.

However, of more importance is that the recent Joint Warrior exercise has meant HMS Prince of Wales is now declared fully operational.

Apparently cutting up active F35s is frowned upon so this is the next best thing!
Sounds like there may be a spare airframe available now, just pop it in the airing cupboard with some uncooked rice overnight first wink

Important ceremony took place on board this morning. It commemorated HMS PWLS becoming the command ship of NATO's Response Force on the 1st January. As such she now sports a new sticker.
She will will serve as the command ship for the international task group, taking part in exercises in the Arctic, Baltic and Mediterranean.

HMS PWLS leaves port tomorrow morning 7:30AM for a three week training voyage.

Thanks for the update, I did wonder about the new bonnet badge. No danger of seeing it this morning though…

It was too early and chilly to be sitting in Sir Ben's old car park this morning.

After a short term of mucking about with helicopters off the coast of Cornwall and Dorset, she's back home tomorrow ( Friday 4th - Round Tower 13:45) to prepare for the Cold Response exercise in Norway in early March.

Probably a dumb question, will HMS Prince of Wales remain a helicopter ship? Does it have the equipment and logistics in place to use her for F35-B's? It must have the whole mole system like her sister HMS Queen Elizabeth etc.

She’s a normal aircraft carrier and can and has taken F35.

Yep, fully certified for F35. Her certification process was a lot quicker due to having the crib sheet from when the various landing/taking off procedures were developed on HMS QNLZ.
Basically the pilots knew what they were doing that time around. biggrin

Early (late?) start tonight/tomorrow morning. HMS PWLS leaves port at 02:30 Monday 7th to head for the Cold Response 22 venture held off the coast around Norway.

This is a regular NATO training exercise and will be attended by up to 27 countries. So although nothing relating to world events should be read into this scheduled event, the timing of such a display might be considered to be conveniently poignant.

It’s been years in the planning so literally nothing to do about poignant timing.

You've misread my suggestion.

(The exercise happens every two years.)
