Who configures two runways like that so close together and in the same orientation.

Similar situation to the Pan-Am 707 mixing up the wrong gasholders as navigation reference and landing (just) at RAF Northolt instead of on R23 at Heathrow......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P6LV-DKMrc
I recall an unusual flight a few years ago into Rhoose airport, instead of the usual over Barry and drop down heading west into the airport, we hugged the South Wales coast, went past it, banked over Bridgend and headed back from where we had come, I could have sworn we were lining up to land at St Athan instead! we went right over the top of it very low.
Both fields are only a couple of miles apart, I have been told mistakes have been made for each by pilots.

A member of my club approached Farnborough thinking it was Blackbushe, then a year or two later a USAF B52 crew made the opposite mistake. The trouble is that runways are preferably aligned with prevailing winds so airfields close together will tend to have similarly oriented runways.

I worked at FIA last year and watched a few arrivals at the end of the day, one of which (possibly one the Red Bull exhibits look like he did a missed approach at Blackbushe before eventually arriving at FarnboroughGassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
