This one seems to like Weymouth harbour at the moment.

I'm sure I read that they were going to replace Marine One with them, but they were not considered safe enough for POTUS?
Maybe they could make an exception for the current President?

You're right it's a very distinctive noise, quite easy to recognise. We live about 20 miles from Mildenhall so they come over every now and again. I do still get excited to see one, an aircraft so long in development that I remember building a 1:72 model of one when I was young in the late 80s/early 90s.

We had a couple fly over home in Wiltshire recently, proud Dad moment as I hear my son in the back garden telling my wife that they were Ospreys and that they can turn into a helicopter or a plane!

Completely off topic hehe

Just watched the episode of the Saint where they stole a jet called Osprey in the programme. The episode was filmed in '66 and the "Osprey" was a Harrier (to my untrained eye).

That really must be some very very early footage?

Not a lot of VTOL Jets to choose from, so probably its predecessor, the Hawker P.1127, which looked very similar.

That makes sense. In my ignorance I didn't know there was a VTOL that pre dated Harrier.

It was one of the nine Kestrel FGA.1's from the Tri-partite Evaluation Squadron based at RAF West Raynham.

Aha. Did I see RAF roundels and the French flag on them?

I’ve been on board an Osprey, but only on the ground. I was surprised how small it is, but wow, those engines and blades dominate!

That sir is a cracking photo well done

Info from a 'source'; the ones in Southern England may be flying on and off the new aircraft carrier in order to (apologies if my terminology is inaccurate) gain the appropriate certificates/accreditation, in order to be allowed to do so in the future, should it prove necessary.

Two US Marine Corps (presumed as they were reportedly from the Iwo Jima ) Ospreys in Farnborough earlier and due back ( See This This Thread ) or they could be USAF out of Mildenhall.
