I know three easyJet pilots (one an examiner and instructor) and they are all under the impression there’s no flying until end of June or thereabouts currently.
I asked about the sim and that’s also shut.
The examiner expects about a weeks notice for flying, everyone gets a quick go/refresher in the sim and away we go.
I’m sure he said rules are currently being relaxed slightly about licensing hours etc.
My BA pilot friends are currently moving different aircraft around to park them up. A320’s for example down to Bournemouth, 25 down there currently and there will be 42 down there in total shortly.
Wow, it’s going to be some sight! Just seen an A319 arrive, just for a change.I asked about the sim and that’s also shut.

According to flightradar24 there were 8,500 planes in the air at about this time on the 19th October.
Right now its showing 4,600!! Thats a lot of planes parked up and flight crews stood down around the world!!
And only about 830 over the whole of Europe!

That's going to take some careful unpicking if you want just one out of the pack...https://twitter.com/NPASSouthWest/status/124351671...

From someone who was in the industry up to today, all be it ground based, the future looks very bleak at the moment.
Am seeing posts elsewhere that Easy Jet are stopping ALL operations next Tuesday.
I’m still of the opinion that although this will have a lasting impact on aviation we’ll all be back flying around for the sheer hell of it within 12 months. I know for certain that I’ll be back in the sky as a passenger as soon as it’s permitted. The alternative is holidaying in the UK which with a couple of exceptions is my idea of hell, anyone who has been to Cornwall in July or August would surely concur.Am seeing posts elsewhere that Easy Jet are stopping ALL operations next Tuesday.
On a related note. Not planes, but boats.
P & O Cruises are bringing all their ships back to Southampton. No new cruises starting until April 12th (they'll be lucky!). The Arcadia which at the moment is in Durban, with one more stop in Tenerife, is scheduled to get back to Soton on 12th April.
The cruise industry, like so many others must have been hit very hard.

I was told airlines typically want the planes flying regularly, even now to keep them in readiness and also the pilots need to keep their hours up, does that sound accurate ?
Sounds rubbish to me. Engineering will look after the aircraft and crews will use simulators. Some operators will be flying circuits fairly soon.
There is no reason they cant really if they arent flying passengers to prohibited destinations, perhaps Ryanair want to be first out of the blocks when the restrictions get lifted.
