Cruise ships in Weymouth Bay
Discussion
Was passing through Teignmouth earlier today and spotted 5 cruise ships. Stopped off at a parking point ( Labrador Bay) to get a better look. Saw a couple of people taking pictures and asked if they knew what cruise ships they were. Fortunately a well informed person appeared to tell us it was Marella Explorer2 ,Queen Mary and Queen Victoria and 2 P&O ones.
I'm staying in Torquay where we had 3 yesterday afternoon - the other Marella Exporer and 2 dutch ones that I've forgotten the name of.
Theses cruise ships seem to have been hanging around this area for months now - are they expected to go anywhere soon?

I noticed Jewel of the Seas was missing today at Poole, looks like it’s gone for a spin to clear out the dpf before heading to Southampton.

I use the marine traffic app, you can find and follow just about anything that floats. You can even see a time stamped trail, you could see it went out to sea, spun round and went off to Southampton.

Jewel is twin turbine one auxiliary for additional power / burning in port that was installed when they were a few years old due to the costs of the turbines running. Probably the funnest ships in the RCG to maneuver, very overpowered propulsion.

So assume the aux single turbine is smaller and keeps things ticking over? (The dpf clearing was a joke)
She’s still there currently, I’ve just walked past, Anthem has sailed away so from a high of 7 or 8 ships Poole is now down to just Jewel.
From what i remember, i was last on the class in 2016, sailing Norway / Iceland on Serenade, each turbine was i think 25mw and one traditional diesel that was 9mw? It's actually a thing depending on how the ships setup to go out and "Clean the DPF" - we need to soot blow (well turbines don't) theirs also a few different things going on with the scrubbers (DPF in a sense)

A touch of normality? I've just set off from Tilbury on the first scheduled cruise in some 450 days.
A lot of people looking happy that they have employment again, and a similar number looking happy to be able to have a holiday again.
Great atmosphere
That's great to hear. Which ship are you on?A lot of people looking happy that they have employment again, and a similar number looking happy to be able to have a holiday again.

There was a fair number of cruise ships leaving Southampton on Friday afternoon, haven't seen that in a long time
My sister and husband spent a night on a P&O ship at Southampton last Monday, an overnight 'static cruise' with around a third the total number of passengers. Intended to check out on-board Covid measures and train new crew before sailing she said - and sell cruises no doubt.Riley Blue said:
